Course Content
Review of Basic Epidemiology: Definition and objectives of epidemiology; classification of epidemiological study designs; methodology and tools of descriptive epidemiology; measures of disease frequency.
Analytical Epidemiology: Methodology and tools; cohort studies, case-control studies, cross-sectional studies; measures of association; bias and confounding.
Evidence-Based Practice: Experimental studies; methodological steps of a systematic review; PRISMA guidelines;
Meta-Analysis: Definition, methodology, approaches to statistical data synthesis, sensitivity analysis, and bias in systematic reviews; methodological quality assessment of studies and main assessment tools.
Research Ethics: Elements of research protocol design and ethical review process.
Introduction to Implementation Science.
Prerequisites
For a proper understanding of the topics covered during the course and to achieve the learning objectives, prior knowledge of basic epidemiology and statistics acquired in the Research Methodology I course is required.

Frequency
Mandatory attendance.
Exam mode
The final assessment will consist of a written exam comprising 20 questions of mixed format (multiple-choice questions, short open-ended questions, and analysis of excerpts from scientific articles).
Lesson mode
The course includes 16 hours of classroom teaching. Lectures will be integrated with practical exercises using statistical software, critical reading of systematic reviews/published articles, and group discussions.
