Within the module students are guided to recognise the main areas of mental health and to describe their essential manifestations, to explain the relationships between mental state, behaviours and lifestyles, to apply foundational notions useful to understand common clinical and pharmacological interventions; through brief narrative cases they learn to analyse situations typical of care settings and to evaluate priorities and risk factors using a language shared by the care team; particular attention is devoted to effective communication with patients and families, to promoting adherence to care pathways and to managing safety in clinical environments; by the end of the module students are able to design proportionate operational responses to patient and contextual needs, to justify care choices with clear arguments, and to collaborate with community services to ensure continuity and appropriateness of care.
