Course objectives

The student knows the English words related to the nursing profession, able to understand and express themselves in basic English. Start the technical understanding of a text that provided assistance and scientific through phases of reading and understanding general and specific. Basic language functions to communicate with the patient interview and medical history, medical records, explanation of therapeutic indications.

Course program
General objectives of the course :Acquisition of the language skills necessary to be able to read and understand a text in scientific English as well as acquisition of improved communication skills in key areas of nursing. The course is structured in 7 units, each one organized according to common lexical, functional and structural criteria and focusing on a specific healthcare nursing topic: 1. Admitting patients; 2. Pre/post-operative patient assessment; 3. Caring for patients after an operation; 4. Helping patients with rehabilitation; 5. Medications; 6. Medical imaging; 7. Discharge planning Each of the 7 units contains:  Discussion of the nursing topic;  Listening activities reflecting everyday nursing scenarios;  Medical focus (for ex. using IV infusion equipment);  Charting and documentation;  Grammar focus. The information will be supplemented with videos allowing for a thorough analysis of the topics discussed in class as well as with material from discipline-specific journals and/or prepared by the teacher and made available to students in digital format.
