Construction site planning and design
Course objectives
The course is aimed to provide skills and knowledge needed to the Construction Planning design in accordance to public works current regulatory framework and UNI 10756: 1998 standard that defines structure, contents and implementation methods. Due to the prescriptions of UNI 10756: 1998 standard, techniques and methodologies suited for the Operational Construction and Site Plans design will be illustrated in the framework of the Construction Plan and General site plan design. To this purpose the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and the Product Breakdown Structure (PBS) definition methodologies will be analysed as tools for breaking down a given project into elementary activities in order to identify construction methodologies, resources and equipment involved identifying, at the same time, criteria for quality assurance. For the Operational Site Plans design, in a similar way, the infrastructural and plant subsystems required by the construction site design, management and operation will be analysed, with respect to the safety provisions of the current regulatory framework. For this purpose, provisional works and means required by the activities included in the project will be analysed The Construction Operational Plans definition will allow the creation of the time schedule of the works to be carried out and the construction site layout design required. The project management issues involved will be addressed using traditional reticular techniques (PERT and CPM) and innovative approaches related to Location Based Management (LBM). The knowledge acquired during the course consists in the acquisition of methodologies involves in the Operational Project design and project management methods related to public works.
