THEORY AND HISTORY OF CONTEMPORARY ART

Course objectives

To acquire the main historical knowledge and critical tools, for the contemporary European and North American artistic languages. Essential competencies and skills: In according to the Dublin Descriptors, the objectives of this Course are: - To know and to understand the main expressions of contemporary art in the period between the XX and the XXI centuries: the Avant-garde (Expressionism, Cubism, Dadaism, Futurism, Constructivism, Supremacist, etc.) and the Neo-Avant-gardes (Action-Paiting, Pop-Art, Conceptual Art, Poor Art, “Transavanguardia”). To understand the relationship between art and technology. - To acquire the critical tools (autonomy of judgment) to understand Contemporary Art and the dialectical or conflictual dimension with the social, cultural, economic and political contexts that gradually emerged from the industrial revolution to the present. Course Organization: To achieve these results the course is divided into lectures and seminars prepared in relation to the various topics of a theoretical, critical and methodological nature. Assessment methods: During the exam, the actual knowledge and mastery of the main topics covered during the course will be verified, through an oral exam.
