Ofa: methods of fulfilling additional training obligations

Other training activities that award credits

Other Training Activities

To obtain the 8 ECTS credits, in addition to internships, students are allowed to take part in “other training activities” that are organised and proposed throughout the year by the Degree Programme.

These may include pre-approved competitions (as authorised by the Programme Board), or specific activities carried out independently by the student (such as internships completed in companies not registered on the TSP platform), provided they are relevant to the educational objectives of the programme.

To obtain recognition (ECTS registration) for these activities, the student must:

a. Register for one of the internship exam sessions via Infostud;
b. Complete and have the ECTS request form signed by the Programme Chair, attaching a detailed report describing the learning objectives, acquired skills, and activities carried out over the 200 hours (or part thereof);
c. Send the documentation by email to the Programme Chair on the morning of the scheduled session (as indicated in the academic calendar), between 9:00 and 13:00.
3. Soft Skills and Hard Skills Pathway – Porta Futuro Lazio

A third option to obtain part of the 8 ECTS required for the registration of internship/other training activities (which may also be combined with the activities described in point 2) is through the agreement between the Design Degree Programme and PORTA FUTURO LAZIO.

This is a project promoted by the Lazio Region, aimed at providing students with opportunities for professional growth through career guidance and training services, to better position themselves on the job market.

To obtain ECTS credits via this pathway, students must follow the instructions provided in the file INSTRUCTIONS (download from the [LINK]) and complete the
REGISTRATION form (download from the [LINK]).

Two eligible training paths are available to students:

  • Soft Skills2 ECTS:
    CV check + 35 hours of training activities selected from the list available on the Porta Futuro Lazio portal + career guidance session
  • Hard Skills4 ECTS:
    CV check + 70 hours of training activities selected from the Porta Futuro Lazio portal
    (Note: ensure that the required activities are available on the calendar in time to complete them before your internship exam session date!)

To record the ECTS credits, the student must:

a. Register for one of the internship exam sessions via Infostud;
b. Send an email to the Programme Chair on the morning of the scheduled session (as per the academic calendar), between 9:00 and 13:00, attaching the REGISTRATION document for the Porta Futuro Lazio path.
The email must clearly state that the soft/hard skills training path has been completed.

Graduate

The final exam represents the natural culmination of the knowledge acquired throughout the entire programme and will be supervised by a main Supervisor (Relatore) chosen from among the academic staff of the Degree Programme, and possibly supported by an additional Co-supervisor and/or External Advisor.

The final exam is worth 10 ECTS credits and is conceived as being closely integrated with the Final Synthesis Laboratories (elective curricula) of the third year, with elective modules, and with other training activities.

The final exam must be presented by the candidate during the sessions set out in the academic calendar, and consists of an original and individual project-based work.

The final exam involves the original development of a material or immaterial artefact, possibly in collaboration with external companies and advisors from outside the academic environment. It contributes to the final grade, entitling the candidate to an additional score on top of the arithmetic average of the exam marks, ranging from a minimum of 0 to a maximum of 8 points, awarded as follows:

  1. Project competence and management skills: 0–6 points
  2. Ability to synthesise and communicate: 0–2 points

Note: The assessment criteria are based on the Dublin Descriptors, particularly the following, and are formulated in terms of competence:

  • Knowledge and understanding
  • Applying knowledge and understanding
  • Making judgements
  • Communication skills
  • Learning skills

Thesis topics will be discussed with the supervisors, who will support students in developing their proposals.
The thesis path may take the form of a thematic laboratory, carried out in accordance with a specific annual topic proposed by one or more lecturers from the programme, in collaboration with and continuity to the activities undertaken for the ECTS credits in “Other knowledge useful for entering the world of work” and elective modules.

The final project presentation consists of:

  1. A public presentation of the final work, lasting a maximum of 7 minutes, using slides, video, or other appropriate communication tools;
  2. (Optional) Development of a model (physical or virtual) of the artefact;
  3. Submission of two printed copies of a portfolio (A4 vertical format, according to the official template), documenting the key exams completed during the three-year programme;
  4. Submission of two printed copies of the thesis book (A4 vertical, using the same template as above – it is also permitted to combine the two books into one), providing a complete overview of the final project.
