Organization and responsibilities of the AQ of the CdS
The Quality Assurance (QA) System of Sapienza University is extensively described on the webpages of the Quality Team, accessible at:
https://www.uniroma1.it/it/pagina/team-qualita.
These webpages outline the ten-year path developed by the University to establish the Sapienza Quality Assurance System, the organisational model adopted, the QA stakeholders (Quality Team, Monitoring Committees, Joint Faculty–Student Committees, Degree Programme Quality Committees), the active Working Groups, the main activities carried out, and the documentation prepared for the management of Quality Assurance processes and activities in Teaching, Research, and Third Mission.
The webpages also serve as the communication platform and repository for reference data used in Review activities, in the drafting of reports by the Joint Faculty–Student Committees and Monitoring Committees, and in the completion of the SUA–Teaching and SUA–Research forms.
Each Degree Programme and each Department may adapt the Sapienza Quality Assurance Model defined on the Quality Team webpages to its own QA system, tailoring it to specific organisational needs while fully complying with the models and procedures established by ANVUR and the Quality Team.
The Degree Programme and Department webpages, together with the SUA–Teaching and SUA–Research forms, constitute the main communication tools for the implementation of the Quality Assurance System at Degree Programme and Department level.
The Degree Programme has established a Quality Committee, whose activities are structured as follows: analysis of the overall situation and commentary on data concerning the number of incoming students; characteristics of enrolled students (geographical origin, type of secondary school attended, final school grades, etc.); total number of enrolled students (part-time and full-time); dropout rates; and student opinions regarding individual courses and the overall organisation of the Degree Programme. The Committee also analyses OPIS (Student Opinion Surveys), prioritising—consistently with the approach adopted by the Faculty Evaluation Committee in its Report on Student Satisfaction—those survey questions that effectively measure student satisfaction with individual courses. Further activities include discussion of issues emerging from the analysis of Review Report data; identification of specific corrective actions; preparation of interim reports; discussion within the Degree Programme Council and integration of emerging recommendations; implementation of identified corrective actions; and monitoring of achieved results.
In particular, the Quality Committee is responsible for:
- promoting and coordinating initiatives aimed at strengthening academic coordination among courses, with a focus on thematic and disciplinary synergies;
- monitoring the logistical and scheduling coordination of institutional activities (courses, seminars, examinations, laboratories) in order to minimise idle time between teaching activities;
- fostering initiatives for intra-curricular verification and comparison among courses (remedial classes, in-depth sessions, practical exercises);
- collecting and incorporating critical and constructive feedback from students, also by establishing appropriate evaluation and monitoring deadlines;
- promoting and coordinating meetings among academic staff, students, and professional stakeholders connected to the intended outcomes of the educational offer.
Through its Quality Assurance (QA) Management Group, the Degree Programme will carry out periodic meetings to monitor the corrective actions identified in the previous Review Report; assess the outcomes of their implementation, highlighting emerging strengths, any critical issues, and the changes deemed necessary; verify the adequacy and effectiveness of the management of the Degree Programme; and propose, where appropriate, corrective actions to be included in the subsequent Review Report. The schedule of meetings will be defined following the completion of the University-level requirements.
Consultation with representative organizations
The Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Building Process Management – Project Management originated from a restructuring of the educational offer in line with the needs expressed by Local Authorities and professional associations, which were interested in the education of graduates specialised in the fields of construction, management, and maintenance within the building and environmental sectors.
In designing the Degree Programme, consultations were initiated and agreements and other forms of collaboration were established with the Municipality of Rome, the National Association of Building Contractors (ANCE), and the Joint Territorial Committee of Rome and Province (CTP).
The nature of the consultations, carried out between January 2008 and January 2010, together with the initial agreements under definition, made it possible to develop an educational project that had already been successfully tested in the past and was aimed at a clearly defined professional profile for graduates.
This role envisages the integration of graduates into a productive context in which design and construction represent the core areas of expertise, including the fields of regeneration and rehabilitation of the building and urban heritage. These activities account for more than 74% of the entire construction sector in Europe and raise significant challenges related to the adaptation of the technical apparatus of public administrations.
At the final University-level consultation meeting held on 22 January 2010, and in light of the results of the preceding online consultation, the participating organisations expressed a favourable assessment of Sapienza’s new educational offer as a whole. Furthermore, after a detailed evaluation of the educational offer proposed by the Faculties that presented newly established degree programmes and those derived from the transformation of existing programmes pursuant to Ministerial Decree 509/1999, and taking into account the consultations conducted by the proposing Faculties, the organisations expressed a favourable opinion on the establishment of the individual degree programmes, deeming the specific educational objectives of the proposed courses to be consistent with the training needs identified within the territory.
Consultation with representative organizations (subsequent consultations)
In order to make consultation with social partners more effective and continuous over time, the Degree Programme decided to establish a Steering Committee for the Bachelor’s Degree, structured symmetrically with the Master’s Degree Programme in Project and Construction Management of Building Systems.
Social partners were involved in an initial public meeting held on 16 May 2024, during which the strategic guidelines of the educational pathway were shared and the indications and suggestions provided by stakeholders were taken into account. The aim of the meeting was also to initiate a dialogue with social partners interested in the ongoing reform of degree classes, as well as in the rethinking of professional regulatory frameworks, which, within a reasonably short timeframe, may lead to significant changes in professional and professional order qualifications.
The intention of the Degree Programme is to maintain continuous contact with the Steering Committee, engaging in dialogue on the most relevant issues concerning the relationship between the degree programme and civil society, as was done in October 2024 on the occasion of the revision of degree classes.
This context requires an adaptation of the educational offer in order to align it with the new needs of the sector. It is therefore envisaged that the Steering Committee will meet annually in plenary session to provide guidance and updates on Section A2.a – Professional Profile and Expected Employment and Career Opportunities for Graduates, and that targeted consultations will be carried out with specific stakeholders, such as construction industry associations, where appropriate.
The minutes of the consultation meetings are available at the relevant link.
