International experiences

International Experiences
Sapienza University offers numerous opportunities for study, research, and internships abroad, both within Europe and beyond, for short stays or longer periods, thesis research abroad, and much more.

Study Periods in European Countries: Erasmus+
Erasmus+ promotes transnational cooperation between higher education institutions, funds study mobility (SMS) in all disciplines and academic levels (including PhDs), and ensures academic recognition of studies within the European Higher Education Area.
The programme allows students to attend courses and take exams, with full recognition in their academic transcript, or conduct Master’s or PhD thesis at partner institutions.

Internships in European Countries: Erasmus+ Traineeship
Erasmus+ traineeship mobility enables students to carry out internships at companies, training centres, or research institutions in participating countries. The internship must be full-time and is recognised as an integral part of the student’s academic programme. Internships may also be undertaken after graduation, provided that selection occurs before the degree is awarded. The duration of this mobility adds to that of study periods, up to the maximum allowed by the programme.

Study Periods in Non-EU Countries: Overseas Programme
Thanks to funding provided by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and Sapienza's own resources, the university offers students the opportunity each year to undertake a study period abroad—either to take exams or conduct thesis research—at one of over 200 non-EU institutions with which it has active bilateral agreements.
The Overseas mobility programme offers a monthly grant of €700 net for the first 5 months and €500 net from the 6th month onwards. The stay abroad must be continuous, with a minimum duration of 90 days and a maximum of two consecutive semesters.
The grant may be used only once per study cycle and cannot be combined with other funding from Sapienza.

Study or Research in Non-EU Countries: Erasmus+ KA171 international credit mobility-ICM
The Erasmus+ ICM programme, funded by the European Commission, allows students and faculty members to spend a period abroad for study, thesis research, teaching, or training in non-EU countries. The programme provides a scholarship and covers travel expenses.
All activities carried out abroad will be officially recognized by the relevant Sapienza faculty upon return, as outlined in the Learning Agreement.
Student mobility may last a minimum of 3 months and up to 6 months (with the possibility of extension to a maximum of 12 months, of which the final 6 months may be without funding-“Zero-EU Grant” mode).
The ICM grant also covers PhD-level research mobility for the same duration.
Travel expenses are calculated using the Distance Calculator, based on the distance between the home and host institutions.

***Master Program  Activities***
The program actively participates in the international mobility programs promoted by the University, which provide recognition for activities undertaken abroad and the awarding of scholarships to all admitted students.

Information on international mobility and related calls for applications can be found on the Faculty of Economics webpage:

For the academic year 2025/2026, in order to encourage international mobility, the LM FINASS degree program has activated two new ERASMUS agreements of particular interest to its students: with ENSAE Paris Tech (France) and Bielefeld University (Germany).

To present and promote the annual ERASMUS+ call, the Faculty of Economics and the degree programs organize information sessions. These are orientation and promotional events aimed at students of the Faculty of Economics, with the participation of the Coordinators and academic mobility officers from the Faculty and the Department of Methods and Models for Economics, Territory and Finance (MEMOTEF), which hosts the LM FINASS degree program. For the current academic year, the meeting was held on January 24, 2025.

Students of the degree program who take part in international mobility programs are offered dedicated support services, including front office assistance, managed at faculty level by specialized staff and at the program level by the delegate for internationalization.
In addition to scholarships for thesis research abroad, Erasmus+ and extra-European mobility, students of the LM FINASS program can benefit from an international agreement (active since June 16, 2023) with Advanced Risk and Portfolio Management (ARPM) in New York. This agreement allows participation in an intensive course in Quantitative Finance, held in-person in New York (for selected outstanding students) and streamed online for all others. The Quant Bootcamp provides a comprehensive overview of the most advanced Data Science techniques and their applications in Quantitative Finance. In addition to basic theoretical and applied lectures, it includes access to an online study/practice lab (ARPM Lab), which is also useful for thesis work.

Erasmus+ 2026-2027 call for applications for study: https://www.uniroma1.it/it/pagina/bando-erasmus-2026-2027-studio
The Erasmus+ Program offers students the opportunity to spend a mobility period abroad, from a minimum of 2 to a maximum of 12 months, at one of Sapienza's more than 650 partner universities across Europe. Specifically, the LM-16 Degree Course has entered into specific Erasmus+ agreements with selected universities, aimed at allowing students to choose a location that allows them to successfully follow courses consistent with their educational path. Exams taken abroad may be recognized upon their return, according to the procedures established by current legislation and the Degree Course regulations. The Program provides for the assignment of Erasmus+ scholarships to support the costs of mobility. The call for applications is available here. The deadline for submitting applications is 12 February 2026, 1:00 PM. The delegate for internationalization, Professor Claudia Ceci, will meet with students for further information on January 20, 2026 at 12:00 pm.

To illustrate and promote international mobility for the 2025/26 academic year, the Degree Course has provided a space dedicated to internationalization during the FINASS WELCOME DAY held on November 21, 2025. Coinciding with the release of the Erasmus call, the delegate Professor Claudia Ceci will meet with students to promote participation in the call.

Quant-Bootcamp
The Quant Bootcamp, https://www.arpm.co/quant-bootcamp, provides a comprehensive overview of the most advanced data science techniques and their applications in mathematical finance. In addition to basic theoretical and applied lectures, the Quant Bootcamp also includes access to an online ARPM Lab, lectures by world-renowned speakers, and networking with industry leaders and hundreds of other attendees from industry and other universities.
The Quant Bootcamp is free for FINASS Master's degree students. The course takes place in New York (at New York University) in the second half of July. In addition to in-person activities reserved for selected students, the agreement allows participation in live-streaming and self-paced modes open to all. Each year, scholarships are offered to FINASS Master's degree students to cover the costs of in-person participation in New York.
NOTICE A call for applications has been published for two "Quant-Bootcamp New York" awards to support participation in the ARPM Quant-Bootcamp, which will take place at New York University in July 2026. The call is open to students enrolled in the second year of the Master of Science in Finance and Insurance. The deadline is January 31, 2026.
