Course objectives

This course aims at improving and practicing in French Language the four communication skills according to the European Common Frame of Reference (ECFR) as follows : - Level B1 for speaking and writing ; - Level B2 for listening and reading. The knowledge acquired by the student will be focused on the use of French in specialised and professional contexts such as economics, geopolitics and tourism. The acquired skills will be the following : - ability to communicate, to present arguments and to describe facts, ideas or experiences ; - ability to deal with lexico-grammatical features of current French and specialised French as well as French for Specific Purposes ; - ability to identify linguistic and communicative strategies in oral and written texts and reproduce them in writing or speaking.

Course program
I. COURSE – 1st semester Comprehension and reasoned reformulation of specialized French texts: environmental, cultural, and tourism fields. The course will be divided into three modules. Module 1: French for tourism and the environment. Module 2: Introductory texts on French cultural and environmental policy. Module 3: Building arguments and communication strategies in a professional settings. Bibliography: Reference texts and specialized documents for textual analysis will be recommended and made available during the course. II. LANGUAGE TRAINING – 1st and 2nd semesters – Dottor T. Oral test: analysis and structured presentation of a specialized press article and one of the two "dossiers de presse" prepared by the student. The "dossiers de presse" will consist of three articles each on two current topics relevant to the course, taken from the French-language specialized press. Students must bring both printed dossiers to the oral exam and will be asked to present one of them, highlighting the similarities and differences between the three articles on the same subject, following a logical plan. Prerequisites

Frequency
Attendance recommended for at least 2/3 of the course.
Exam mode
Written test: comprehension of a specialised text and evaluation of the knowledge of the grammatical structures. Oral test: oral presentation of a specialised French article taken from the French- speaking press.
