Course objectives

The aim of the course is to provide to students a correct methodology of diagnostic and therapeutic approach to the main diseases of the most common medical and surgical interests. At the end of the course the student must be able to take therapeutic decisions about the most common diseases. The students will also acquire general knowledge of respiratory and cardiovascular prevention, of the preparation for surgery, of postoperative complications with particular attention to infections and antibiotic treatment. At the end of the course the student must be able to make a decision aimed towards therapeutic ends in pathologies of statistical importance. The student will also have acquired general knowledge about intensive therapy, enteral and parenteral nutrition, transfusions, obvious and concealed hemorrhage, and, as far as the surgical patient is concerned, to prepare him for the operation, and to deal with post-operative complications, paying particular attention to infection and antibiotic treatment.
