International experiences

Sapienza offers numerous opportunities for study, research, and internships abroad: in Europe and outside Europe, for short stays or longer periods, thesis work abroad, and much more.

Study periods in European countries: Erasmus+
Erasmus+ promotes transnational cooperation among higher education institutions; it funds mobility for study purposes (SMS) in all disciplines and at all levels of study (including doctoral level) and supports the academic recognition of studies within the European Higher Education Area. The Erasmus+ programme allows students to attend courses and pass exams, with full recognition in their academic curriculum, or to carry out research for the preparation of their bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral thesis.

Internships in European countries: Erasmus+ traineeship
Erasmus+ traineeship mobility allows students to undertake internships at companies, training centers, and research institutions located in one of the participating countries. The programme enables full-time internship activities abroad, recognized as an integral part of the study programme. Internships can also be carried out after graduation, provided that the selection takes place before obtaining the degree. The number of months of mobility is added to those of Erasmus study periods, up to the maximum allowed by the programme.

Study periods in non-EU countries: Overseas Programme
Thanks to funding provided by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and its own contributions, Sapienza offers each year the opportunity to spend a study period abroad—either to take exams or conduct thesis research—at one of over 200 non-EU institutions with which it has bilateral agreements in force. Overseas mobility includes a monthly contribution of €700 net per month for the first 5 months and €500 net from the 6th month onward. The stay abroad must be continuous, last at least 90 days, and may extend up to a maximum of 2 consecutive semesters. The contribution can be received only once per study cycle and cannot be combined with other Sapienza funding.
