A.Y. 2025/2026 MATRICULATIONS
MODALITIES OF VERIFICATION OF CURRICULAR REQUIREMENTS AND PERSONAL PREPARATION
(INFORMATION TO BE READ IN ADDITION TO THAT IN THE ANNOUNCEMENT)
Beginning in July 2025, you can submit your application for verification of requirements by following the procedure outlined in Article 8 of the Student Regulations.
1. How to apply for admission:
1.a If you are a graduate student at Sapienza, you must, according to the procedures and deadlines stated in Article 8 of the Sapienza Student Regulations, submit your application for verification of requirements on Infostud, indicating the course code 33461 and paying the relevant 10 Euro bulletin.
1.b If you are a graduate from another Italian university, you must first register on Infostud, following the instructions in Article 8 of the Sapienza Student Regulations, and then submit your request for verification of requirements. The course code to indicate in the request is 33461.
In addition, for the evaluation of curricular requirements, you must send an email to clsbiotecnologie@uniroma1.it with the subject line “verification of Medical Biotechnology requirements,” containing the following attachments:
- Graduation certificate with examinations, or self-certification of the degree awarded (or to be awarded) with list of examinations taken and scientific disciplinary fields corresponding to the teachings;
- Copy of an identity document.
Failure to submit such documentation will not make it possible to verify that you meet the curricular requirements for admission purposes.
1.c If you are a graduate from a foreign university, you must follow the procedure indicated in Article 8 of the Student Regulations, for validation of the degree earned abroad, and also send the degree certificate with exams to the email address clsbiotecnologie@uniroma1.it.
1.d For all applicants: the submission of the application for verification of requirements is followed by an evaluation of the curriculum by a special committee of faculty members. The outcome of this evaluation will be communicated to you by email, to the address entered in Infostud at the time of registration.
2. Curricular requirements necessary for admission to the course:
2.a Degree class and other requirements.
To be admitted to the CLM in Medical Biotechnology, it is necessary to have graduated in one of the following classes (or hold another degree obtained abroad, recognized as suitable):
- Class L-2 Biotechnology ex D.M. 270
- Class L-13 Biological Sciences ex D.M. 270
- Class LM-41 Medicine and Surgery ex D.M. 270
- Class 1 Biotechnology ex. D.M. 509/99
- Class 12 Biological sciences ex. D.M. 509/99
- Class 46S Medicine and Surgery ex. D.M. 509/99
Previous five-year degrees in Biological Sciences and Biotechnology.
In the absence of one of the above degrees, it is necessary to have acquired at least 50 CFUs in the disciplines of mathematics, chemistry and biochemistry; molecular and applied biology; microbiology, pathology and pharmacology; and human anatomy, physiology and histology, according to the quantitative constraints below:
- at least 10 CFU in the disciplines of mathematics, chemistry and biochemistry: MAT07, MAT06, BIO10, CHIM03, CHIM06;
- at least 15 CFU in the disciplines of molecular and applied biology: BIO11 and BIO13;
- at least 15 CFU in the disciplines of microbiology, pathology and pharmacology: MED04, MED07, BIO14;
- at least 10 CFU in the disciplines of human anatomy, physiology and histology: BIO09, BIO16, BIO17.
After submitting the application for verification of requirements, you will receive guidance from a special committee of faculty members on the number of CFUs for specific scientific disciplinary areas to be acquired prior to enrollment in the course of study. Important: You will not receive specific indications on particular exams to be taken, as you yourself can choose freely, within the educational offerings of both Sapienza and other universities. To take single examinations at Sapienza, you can follow the directions given in Article 41 of the Student Regulations.
You may be admitted to the entrance exam if at the time of application you have already earned no less than 38 of the required 50 CFUs. It is understood that if you pass the entrance test, the possibility of formalizing your enrollment is subject to the prior acquisition of the missing CFUs.
3. Verification of personal preparation:
3.a Written test
In addition to fulfilling the curricular requirements listed in the previous point, admission to the Master's Degree Program in Medical Biotechnology is subject to verification of the personal preparation of the candidates, which is carried out through a written test.
All candidates, whether graduates of Sapienza or other universities, are subject to this test.
The written test will be held on October 22, 2025, and only in the event that seats are still available (the course has a maximum sustainability of 65 enrolled), a second one will be organized in January 2026. The times and the classroom where the test will be held will be communicated to you directly by email, at the address you entered on Infostud during registration.
3.b What the test consists of
The test consists of 65 multiple choice questions, of which
- 55 selective, on basic unavoidable topics in the fields of Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Histology, Anatomy, Microbiology, Pathology and Immunology, and also on the reading and comprehension of short scientific texts in English, to verify the possession of an adequate level of knowledge of the language (at least level B2 is required);
- 10 non-selective but aimed at testing knowledge of some more specific topics within some subjects.
A score of not less than 22 points is required to pass the test. The score is calculated as follows: 1 point for correct answer; 0 points for no answer; -0.25 points for wrong answer.
The calculation is made solely on the basis of the 55 selective questions.
Any gaps that emerge with respect to the non-selective questions can be filled in the course of the year, including with the support of specially appointed tutors.
If you hold a B2 level English language certification, you can send a copy of it to the email address clsbiotecnologie@uniroma1.it, together with the documentation required for the submission of the application for verification of requirements (self-certification or degree certificate with exams taken; copy of an identity document). The committee will take this into account if the outcome of the written test, with respect to English language, is not satisfactory.
3.c When to apply for verification of requirements
Verification of requirements is applied for by paying a fee of €10.00 by one of the following dates, at the student's choice:
- September 16, 2024 (only useful date for those coming from non-EU countries and applying for study visas)
- October 16, 2024
Payment is generated on the Infostud system. Payment is made online using PagoPA (direct payment). The code to be entered on the system is 33461.
Important: Since the knowledge verification test will take place on October 22, you can take the test only by submitting your application by the October 16 deadline. Should additional places become available after the October test to fill the 65 sustainable, an additional date will be set for January, and in that case you can apply for verification of the requirements, according to the additional deadlines indicated in the Sapienza Student Regulations.
4. Undergraduates
If you are an undergraduate student, you can apply for verification of the requirements and take the test to verify your personal preparation. If you pass the test, you will be admitted conditionally until you submit your degree certificate (by December 2025 for undergraduates at other universities; by January 2026 for Sapienza undergraduates).
5. Candidates who have not yet earned the 50 CFUs required for admission.
You can take the test even if you have not yet completed the 50 CFUs required for admission (the 50 CFUs equally divided among the fields BIO/09, BIO/10, BIO/11, BIO/13, BIO/14, BIO/16, BIO/17, MED/04, MED/07, CHIM/03, CHIM/06, MAT/07, MAT/06), provided you have acquired at least 38 credits at the time of application.
Passing the test, in this case, results in conditional admission, until the certificates of the exams taken are submitted (by emailing them to clsbiotecnologie@uniroma1.it, specifying in the subject line “CFU supplementation for access to Medical Biotechnology”).
To earn the remaining CFUs required for admission, you can take exams by following the procedure indicated in Article 41 of the Student Regulations - “Enrollment in Single Courses.” Undergraduates at “Sapienza” can take advantage of Article 42 of the Student Regulations to make up any missing SSDs in their coursework, prior to graduation.
All supplementary exams must necessarily be passed by the final deadline for matriculation (see Art. 8 of the Student Regulations).
Neither the Registrar's Office nor the LSC faculty have a predefined list of exams available to supplement the curricular requirements. In general, it is advisable to consult the Sapienza course catalog, paying particular attention to the courses provided as part of the three-year degrees in Biotechnology and Biological Sciences.
6. Passing of tests and start of course attendance
First-year courses begin in October 2025 (class schedule is available in the “Attendance” section) and attendance of no less than 67% of class hours is required to take exams.
The lectures are public, so even applicants who have yet to formalize enrollment are strongly advised to attend the classroom courses.
