Below are some FAQs for those interested in enrolling in the Medical Biotechnology program for the 2026/2027 academic year.
1. Who is eligible to apply?
Graduates and students nearing graduation who meet the academic requirements specified in the call for applications may apply. Applicants may also apply with a degree earned abroad, provided it is recognized as equivalent under current regulations.
2. I have a degree in Biotechnology (L-2), Biological Sciences (L-13), or Medicine and Surgery. Do I need to prove that I have earned 50 CFU?
No. Applicants holding one of the degree types listed in the call for applications automatically meet the academic requirement for admission to the program.
3. I have a degree other than those listed in the call for applications. Can I still be admitted?
Yes. In this case, you must have at least 50 CFU in the scientific-disciplinary fields indicated in the call for applications, meeting the minimum requirements for each disciplinary area.
4. How do I know if I have the required credits?
After submitting your application for eligibility review, a committee will evaluate your academic record and notify you of the outcome via email.
5. I don’t yet have all 50 required credits. Can I still apply?
Yes, provided that at the time of submitting your application, you have already earned at least 38 of the 50 required CFU. You may take the written exam on a provisional basis and complete the remaining CFU by December 2026.
6. How can I earn any missing credits?
Missing credits can be earned through individual exams or other university courses consistent with the scientific-disciplinary fields indicated by the committee. You are free to choose your courses, which may be taken at Sapienza or other universities.
7. I am a graduating student. Can I apply?
Yes. Graduating students may request a verification of requirements and take the admission exam. However, the degree must be earned by:
* January 24, 2027, for Sapienza graduating students;
* December 20, 2026, for graduating students from other Italian or foreign universities.
8. How do I submit an application for eligibility verification?
The application must be submitted through Infostud using course code 33461 and by paying the required fee of €10.00. If you are registering on Infostud for the first time and have not yet earned your bachelor’s degree, be sure to select the “final-year student” option.
9. I have a degree or am about to graduate from another Italian university. Do I need to submit additional documentation?
Yes. In addition to the application on Infostud, you must send an email to clsbiotecnologie@uniroma1.it with:
* a degree certificate or a self-certification form listing the exams you’ve taken and the corresponding credit points (for the self-certification, you can use this form: https://www.uniroma1.it/sites/default/files/field_file_allegati/dichiara...);
* a copy of a valid ID.
10. I hold a foreign degree. What should I do?
You must follow the procedures set forth by the International Student Office, sending your documentation both to stranieri@uniroma1.it (Office for Students with Foreign Degrees)—which must confirm that your credentials meet the admission requirements—and to clsbiotecnologie@uniroma1.it.
11. What does the personal aptitude test entail?
The test consists of 60 multiple-choice questions covering fundamental disciplines in medical biotechnology, including biochemistry, chemistry, genetics, molecular biology, microbiology, pathology, immunology, anatomy, histology, biomedical statistics, and comprehension of a scientific text in English.
The registrar’s office does not provide tests from previous years. Candidates are advised to prepare using the textbooks used in the three-year program for each subject.
Between July and October, orientation sessions for incoming students are organized and led by program tutors to provide methodological support for preparing for the knowledge assessment test. The dates and procedures for these sessions are published in the “Featured Notices” section of the Medical Biotechnology webpage.
12. How is the test score calculated?
Scores are assigned according to the following criteria:
* +1 point for each correct answer;
* 0 points for each answer not provided;
* -0.25 points for each incorrect answer.
13. What is the minimum score required to pass the test?
To pass, you must score 24 points or higher.
14. If I don’t pass the exam, can I retake it at a later date?
Yes. Candidates who do not pass the October or November exam may retake the test on one of the two subsequent dates, provided they notify the course’s academic office well in advance: clsbiotecnologie@uniroma1.it.
15. How can I register for subsequent exams if I did not pass the previous one?
Candidates who wish to retake the exam must request registration for the November session by sending an email to clsbiotecnologie@uniroma1.it by October 15, 2026. To register for the January session, however, you must send an email by December 17, 2026.
16. Do I have to resubmit all the documentation to take the November exam?
No. Candidates who have already taken the October exam and wish to retake it simply need to request registration for the new session via email by the specified deadline.
17. When will the lists of admitted candidates be published?
The lists will be available in the “Enroll” section of the degree program’s webpage within one week of each exam.
18. What should I do if I am admitted?
Admitted candidates must confirm their acceptance of the spot within 20 days of the publication of the ranking list. Specifically:
if you already hold a bachelor’s degree and meet the curricular admission requirements, you can pay the enrollment fee;
if you have not yet earned your bachelor’s degree or need to earn additional credits to meet the academic admission requirements, you must email clsbiotecnologie@uniroma1.it, stating your acceptance of the spot and indicating the dates—even if approximate—by which you will earn your bachelor’s degree and/or take the supplementary exams.
