History of International Relations and European Institutions
Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide the basic knowledge for the analysis and understanding of the evolution of the international political system since the Paris Peace conference and the end of the colonial system. Particular attention will be devoted to the History of European Integration. Through the study of these topics students will be able to acquire the knowledge and the interpretative skills necessary to understand the main dynamics of history of international relations. The inclusion of on-going audits in the form of short presentations and discussions by the students will also provide the necessary critical elements and a concrete capacity for analysis.

Course program
The main task of the course is to establish an overall description of international relations in contemporary history with the necessary analytical skills for the main themes of the twentieth century and European issues.The course will focus on the international actors since the late 19th Century, the world wars, the international system and its organization, cold war, decolonization, the process of European integration with a specific focus on EU's foreign relations
Prerequisites
None. Basic knowledge of modern history
Frequency
Attendance is not mandatory
Exam mode
Oral exam. During classes students will be also invited to write and discuss short papers.
Lesson mode
The course will examine in particular the development of the current international context through insights focused on the phases of colonization, decolonization and the Cold War. Part of the lectures will also be devoted to the study of European institutions. Traditional lectures and the possibility to make short presentations and discussions on topics indicated by the teacher.
