architectural and building design 2 with design studio

Course objectives

This course aims to train the student's ability to address the architectural design as a synthesis between the concept of form and its constructive resolution. In particular, we intend to develop specific skills on: · The criteria for design, shape and distribution of space as a coherent reply to user requirements; · The correlations between the building and its context, in the widest meaning of the word; · The technical feasibility of buildings as well as its technological reference.

Course program
The load bearing structure and the spaces definition (basics - design criteria - construction techniques)The spatial structure and the functional compliance (size and distribution - accessibility – security)The technological structure and the control of environmental conditions (technical facilities - environmental protection – integration)The descriptive structure of building system (description – classification)The procedural structure of construction (building process - design as a process - structure of the design process)
Prerequisites
Knowledge of the building system in the classification of built spaces and parts, in their hierarchical and correlation relationships. Basic knowledge of statics and technical physics. Project representation. Fundamentals of technical drawing. Fundamentals of analytical and descriptive geometry.
Books
PDF documents downloadable from the course web page For distance teaching, lessons and all course material are made available through the Google Classroom application, according to the indications of the Faculty and Degree Course Presidency.
Frequency
Compulsory attendance at design workshops. Strongly recommended attendance at lectures and tutorials, also in view of the lack of textbooks related to examination topics
Exam mode
10% diligence during the year 10% advanced energy modeling exercise 50% evaluation of the project 30% oral test on the interpretation and comment of construction details (1st question), on the extemporaneous resolution of a technical problem (2nd question) and on the description of an energy system (3rd question)

Lesson mode
The didactic course is developed with theoretical lectures on active and passive systems for energy efficiency in buildings, the methods and issues relating to the structural support of building constructions, and the building process. The exercises and workshops are design-based and include group work on the project theme proposed by the lecturer. The final assignment consists of a synthesis project at various levels of a building organism and contributes to the assessment of profit jointly with the oral examination.
