MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS II
Course objectives
To give the fundamental concepts and tools of differential and integral calculus for functions of several real variables and vector fields, of differential equations and of Fourier series; to give an intuition, though examples and practical applications, of the use of Mathematical Analysis in the qualitative and quantitative description of a phenomenon..Expected results: To read, understand and use the tools of differential and integral calculus for functions of several real variables and vector fields, of differential equations and of Fourier series. To know, understand and prove their main properties.

Course program
Functions of several real variables and vector fields. Multiple integrals. Curves, differential forms and line integrals. Surfaces and surface integrals. The divergence and curl thoerems. The implicit function therorem and some of its consequences, Ordinary differential equations. Fourier series.

Prerequisites
No curricular prerequisites. Cultural prerequisites: high-school math and physics; basic knowledge of calculus in one independent variable, of vector calculus, and of linear algebra.

Exam mode
The exam lasts two hours and consists in a written test containing 3 exercises (24/25 points) and some open questions concerning theory (6/7 points), to be answered during the last 30 minutes. Electronic instruments are not allowed. Consultation of a textbook is allowed during the first 90 minutes. The test is passed if two exercises are correctly solved AND the overall evaluation is at least 18 points.
