Degree programme choice orientation
The SOrT (Integrated Orientation Service)
The SOrT is Sapienza’s integrated orientation service. It has a central office at the University campus and desks located within the Faculties. At the SOrT, students can obtain specific information regarding Faculties and Degree Programmes and receive guidance in making informed choices. The central office and Faculty teaching staff coordinate orientation projects for incoming students and tutoring activities, while also providing information on the educational offer and administrative procedures for enrolment.
Orientation initiatives and projects:
- “Porte aperte alla Sapienza” (Open Days at Sapienza)
This annual initiative, held at the main University campus, is the most important event dedicated to prospective students. Over three orientation days, participants can meet professors and students, receive information, and attend presentations in the Aula Magna showcasing the educational offer of all Faculties. The initiative is open to anyone interested in enrolling in Bachelor’s, Single-Cycle Master’s, or Master’s Degree Programmes, with particular focus on secondary school students in their final years.
The event offers an opportunity to discover Sapienza, its study programmes, facilities, cultural spaces, and student services (libraries, study rooms, museums, student residences, sports facilities, and University theatre). Information is also available on administrative procedures, including enrolment requirements, as well as details on admission tests.
In addition, the Office for Students with Disabilities and SLD promotes inclusive access to higher education through customised and individualised study plans and the provision of didactic, financial, or logistical support for vulnerable students. The Office also guides students through the procedures required to request support and specifies the necessary medical documentation. - Sapienza Orientation Portal
To support students in choosing their study programme, the University has developed an online portal (https://orientamento.uniroma1.it/index.html that provides an immersive preview of university life: virtual tours of the campus, classrooms, laboratories, libraries, theatre, music and sports facilities; online teaching modules covering key topics of the courses; and tools to assess and improve preparation for admission or entry tests. The portal is also the main point of access for information on orientation events organised throughout the year by Faculties and Departments. It hosts videos introducing Faculties, Bachelor’s, Single-Cycle, and Master’s Degree Programmes, with particular attention to newly established courses. All orientation initiatives are promoted through Sapienza’s social media channels. - Self-assessment tools (developed and validated by Sapienza experts):
- “Know Yourself”: supports decision-making in choosing a study path, providing feedback on personality, academic, and professional profiles.
- “Me, Myself, and Others”: measures soft skills, i.e., personal attitudes relevant for integration into society and the labour market.

Degree Programme Activities
The CAD in Environmental Engineering organises an annual public presentation of the Master’s Degree study path, as part of activities coordinated by the Faculty of Civil and Industrial Engineering. Representatives of stakeholders, particularly members of the Advisory Board, also participate in this event.
The Degree Programme, coordinated by the President of the CAD in Environmental Engineering, also organises a dedicated meeting with first-year students to explain the study path and the requirements of the first year. This meeting covers: the cultural project, learning objectives, career opportunities, the didactic structure of the programme, and the preparation of the study plan. The aim is to increase students’ awareness and motivation, while also addressing questions and concerns in an interactive format.
The CAD uses internationalisation funds to recruit, on an annual basis, a collaborator to support the management of selection, reception, integration, communication, and promotion services for international students enrolled in the Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering. These funds are also used to provide tutoring for first-year courses, with the aim of facilitating academic progress for students coming from other (especially foreign) universities, whose previous training may differ from that of Sapienza’s Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering.
The Sapienza Orientation Portal (also available in English) offers an immersive preview of university life through videos and photos of facilities, including a presentation video of the Degree Programme: https://youtu.be/WyupSKtJJgk
