MICRO-NANO INTEGRATED ELECTRONIC DEVICES

Course objectives

The student acquires notions relating, on one hand, to the miniaturization strategies of compatible CMOS components according to Moore's law and, on the other hand, to alternative solutions to the conventional transistor identified in the last 30 years by semiconductor industries. The student virtually performs a journey inside the integrated circuit, opening it and discovering its materials, every technological detail, its criticalities and its strengths. The student learns about the meaning of the word "reliability" and the enormous importance that today this aspect has in the design of new architectures, new materials and new devices. At a methodological level, the student learns to critically evaluate problems and solutions in the compromise between performance, cost and reliability. Every year there are some seminars, where people from different semiconductor industries are involved and will talk about the topics of the course that are currently the core business of the Companies. These seminars aim to open our eyes to the semiconductor market and to offers for internships, degree thesis and structured positions.
