Quality Assurance (QA)

Organization and responsibilities of the AQ of the CdS

The Quality Assurance System (QA) of Sapienza is extensively described on the Team Qualità web pages, available at: https://www.uniroma1.it/it/pagina/team-qualita

These web pages describe the ten-year development path undertaken by the university to build the Sapienza Quality Assurance system, the organizational model adopted, the actors involved in QA (Quality Team, Monitoring Committees, Joint Faculty–Student Committees, Degree Program Quality Committees), the active working groups, the main activities carried out, and the documentation prepared for managing the processes and activities related to Quality Assurance in Teaching, Research, and Third Mission activities.

The web pages also serve as a communication platform and as a repository for reference data used in review activities, in drafting the reports of the Joint Faculty–Student Committees and the Monitoring Committees, and in completing the SUA-Teaching and SUA-Research forms.

Each Degree Program and each Department may adapt the Sapienza Quality Assurance Model, defined on the Team Qualità web pages, to their own Degree Program/Department QA system, adopting and tailoring it to their specific organizational characteristics while still respecting the models and procedures defined by ANVUR and the Quality Team.

The web pages of the Degree Programs and Departments, together with the SUA-Teaching and SUA-Research forms, constitute the main tools for communicating how the Quality Assurance System is implemented at the Degree Program/Department level.

The Quality Assurance Management Committee (CGAQ) of the Teaching Area Council (CAD) in Computer Science has the following responsibilities:

Preparing the Annual Monitoring Report and the Cyclical Review Report of the Degree Program;

Monitoring the educational offering, the quality of teaching, and the services provided to students by faculty members and researchers;

Identifying the indicators necessary for evaluating the outcomes of the various activities carried out within the degree program.

The CGAQ of the CAD in Computer Science organizes periodic monitoring meetings to verify the implementation of the corrective actions identified in the Cyclical Review Report and the Annual Monitoring Report.

The Quality Assurance Management Committee (CGAQ) of the Teaching Area Council (CAD) in Computer Science meets periodically to address both general monitoring activities, such as the educational offering and teaching quality, and specific activities, including the Cyclical Review Report and the Annual Monitoring Report.

Meetings are organized in such a way as to ensure compliance with the timelines established by the university and the related deadlines.

Consultation with representative organizations

On December 5, 2019, at 9:30 a.m., a meeting was held in the Seminar Room of the Department of Computer Science at Sapienza University of Rome to present the proposal for the establishment of the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Applied Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence.

Professionals and experts from companies, organizations, and public administrations attended the meeting, including representatives from: MIUR-DGCASIS, ASSINTEL-Confcommercio, CNR, DXC Technology, ENEA, ENEL, Gruppo Reply, BEAM Digital, NTT Data, PRS.
The Director of the Department of Computer Science, Prof. Alessandro Mei, presented to the audience the main features of the new degree program, focusing particularly on the following aspects:

1) Rationale
The increasingly widespread development and application of intelligent computational systems requires highly qualified and specialized professionals in the field of computer science as a whole, including its applications and artificial intelligence. The new Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence is designed to address this need in a structured way, ensuring the training of professionals capable of tackling the technological challenges that lie ahead.

2) Internationalization
The degree program will be delivered entirely in English. On the one hand, this supports and promotes students’ development within an international context; on the other, it increases the program’s attractiveness to international students, responding to the growing demand from the industrial sector for specialized professionals in computer science with these characteristics.

3) Educational Offering
As presented, the curriculum enables students to obtain a solid foundation in computer science, enriched with more specific competencies in applied computer science and artificial intelligence.

At the end of the presentation, all participants enthusiastically welcomed the proposal, expressing a positive opinion and praising the initiative as a whole, while sometimes suggesting possible improvements to the curriculum. All representatives from the service sector, industry, and professional fields who took part emphasized the great difficulty of finding professionals in the job market related to Applied Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence.

On January 8, 2020, the final meeting at the university level was held as part of the consultation with organizations representing the production of goods and services and professional sectors. During this meeting, the opinions of the consulted organizations were collected, as reported in the attached minutes. The university plans to hold meetings with these organizations on an annual basis.

Consultation with representative organizations (subsequent consultations)

The most recent consultation with organizations representing the sectors involved in the production of goods and services and professional fields took place on October 30, 2024, at the Department of Computer Science, in a hybrid format (in person and online).

The meeting, convened by the President of the Teaching Area Council in Computer Science, was attended by representatives of the main companies in the Rome area, acting as human resources managers or executives from sectors related to the educational program.

After a presentation of the Degree Program, participants were asked to complete a specially prepared questionnaire aimed at collecting information on the relationships between companies and the students of the program, as well as observations and suggestions regarding the organization of the curriculum.

Consultations with stakeholders are expected to take place on an approximately annual basis.

The minutes of the consultations are available in the dedicated folder, accessible through the specified link.
