Laurea Magistrale in Ingegneria Informatica e Intelligenza Artificiale
(Master of Science in Engineering in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence)
Classe LM 32 Ingegneria Informatica
Ordine degli Studi 2026/2027
Specific Educational Objectives
Graduates of the Master's Degree Programme in Engineering in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence are expected to acquire an advanced educational background and broad scientific knowledge enabling them to interact effectively with specialists across all engineering disciplines as well as in the fields of economics and management.
The programme is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in engineering disciplines, advanced knowledge in computer science, and adequate preparation in engineering design methodologies.
The curriculum is based on the assumption that students have already acquired the fundamental scientific and engineering knowledge typically provided by a Bachelor's Degree. To accommodate students with different educational backgrounds, the programme offers several curricular options depending on the applicant's previous degree and academic preparation.
The curriculum includes a core set of subjects considered essential for the education of graduates in Engineering in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. In addition, students may choose among a number of elective courses that allow them to develop specialized expertise in one of the leading areas of computer engineering, including Artificial Intelligence.
All teaching activities are conducted exclusively in English, making the programme accessible to international students. This promotes integration and knowledge exchange within an international environment and contributes to the education of engineers capable of working in multidisciplinary projects.
The completion of the curriculum enables students both to deepen their knowledge in specific areas and to further develop their communication skills. In order to provide substantial experience in the development of complex projects and the solution of advanced problems in Computer Engineering and Artificial Intelligence, the programme includes the preparation of a Master's thesis.
Admission Requirements and Recognition of Previous Credits
Admission to the Master's Degree Programme in Engineering in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence is subject to verification of the curricular requirements specified below.

- the Bachelor's Degree grade point average;
- the relevance of the applicant's previous academic curriculum;
- extracurricular activities, including professional experience and additional educational qualifications;
- an interview, where deemed appropriate.
Based on both the fulfilment of the curricular requirements and the assessment of the applicant's academic preparation, the Admission Committee may specify an individualized study pathway within the Master's programme.
Programme Structure
The Master's Degree Programme is structured as follows:
- Core courses: 48 ECTS (compulsory)
- Core elective courses: 12 ECTS, selected from a predefined group of courses
- Related and supplementary courses: 12 ECTS, selected from a predefined group of courses
- Free elective courses: 12 ECTS
- Advanced Programming Laboratory: 3 ECTS
- Seminar activities: 3 ECTS
- Master's Thesis: 30 ECTS
Teaching activities may include lectures, practical classes, laboratory sessions, group projects, and any other learning activities deemed appropriate by the instructor.
Assessment is normally carried out through an examination, which may include written and/or oral components according to the procedures established by the instructor and communicated together with the course syllabus. For some educational activities, no formal examination is required; instead, students are assessed through a pass/fail evaluation. In such cases, the assessment procedures are likewise defined by the instructor.
The programme does not prescribe formal prerequisites for any course. Attendance is generally not compulsory, except for laboratory sessions and other practical activities for which participation is specifically required.
The Degree Programme also offers an Excellence Programme, aimed at enhancing the education of highly motivated and academically outstanding students who wish to pursue additional cultural and scientific enrichment activities.
The Excellence Programme consists of educational activities that are complementary to the regular curriculum. Participation does not confer additional academic credits that may be counted towards the degree requirements.
Students may apply for admission to the Excellence Programme at the end of their first year of study, provided they satisfy the eligibility criteria established each year through a dedicated call for applications. Each admitted student is assigned an academic tutor.
Detailed information regarding admission requirements and the educational activities included in the Excellence Programme is available on the Degree Programme website.
Final Examination
The final examination consists of the public defense of a Master's thesis carried out under the supervision of a faculty member of the Degree Programme Board.
The thesis represents the culmination of the student's academic education and is intended to assess both the knowledge acquired during the programme and the student's ability to deepen such knowledge, apply it independently to a specific problem, and communicate the results effectively and concisely.
The Master's thesis is worth 30 ECTS credits.
The thesis must involve the development of an original and significant project addressing advanced topics in Computer Engineering and Artificial Intelligence. The work may either focus on the design and implementation of innovative solutions to problems arising in real-world application domains or investigate fundamental and methodological aspects of the discipline, with particular emphasis on research-oriented topics.
In both cases, students are encouraged to carry out their thesis within the framework of ongoing research projects and, where appropriate, to contribute to the dissemination of the results through publications in the scientific literature.
The final examination evaluates both the written dissertation and its oral presentation, with reference to the intended learning outcomes of the Degree Programme.
