Images of America
America is the sum of the images that have brought it back to us, primarily cinematographic images, but also pictorial and photographic: from Edward Hopper to Walker Ewans, from John Ford to Orson Welles to Clint Eastwood to Sofia Coppola. But America is also the sum of the stories, practices, ideas, and categories that have represented it, starting with that of "action." Exploring the theme of “praxis” and its connection to images, the question that will run through the course will be “What is America the name of?”
