GREEK HISTORY II

Course objectives

Given for granted some basic and indispensable goals (knowledge and understanding in the field of studies; ability to apply knowledge and understanding; capability of critical analysis; communication skills on that which has been learned; capacity to undertake further studies with some autonomy), the course intends to attain the following specific objectives: knowledge of key notions of Greek history by means of an analysis of some classics of the discipline; improvement of: capacity of critical reading and historical-theoretical framing of philosophical texts; mastery of philosophical terminology in oral and written communication; argumentative skills.

Course program
The main stages of Greek history will be followed with a focus on the institutional, social, economic and cultural developments of the various forms of aggregation and communities attested in the Greek world, from the second millennium BCE to the Hellenistic Age.
Prerequisites
Same prerequisites as for access to the Course.
Books
1) Texts of Ancient Autors downloadable from the webpage of F.Guizzi on the Sapienza website. 2) L. Breglia, F.Raviola, F.Guizzi, Storia Greca, Napoli (EdiSES) 2015. 3) L.Braccesi, Guida allo studio della storia greca, Roma-Bari (Laterza) 2005.
Teaching mode
Lessons or on line lessons, depending on the sanitary situation.
Frequency
Attendance at face-to-face classes is recommended.
Exam mode
A brief commentary of an ancient source, questions on Greek history (archaic, classical and hellenistic).
