Course program
During the course, both classical and contemporary theories of developmental psychology will be explored in depth, with particular attention to the cognitive, affective, and social processes that characterize the different stages of the life span. Time will be devoted to the study of mental functioning constructs, with reference to learning theories, cognitive theories, and attachment theories, highlighting their implications for understanding socio-emotional development. In the first part of the course, the main theoretical perspectives on child development will be analyzed, with the aim of building a solid foundation of knowledge about the mechanisms that guide psychological growth. Subsequently, the processes that regulate development during adolescence and adulthood will be examined in greater depth, with a particular focus on relational and family dimensions. The role of the family as an evolving system will be discussed, considering the diversity of contemporary family forms and the functions of parenting across different contexts.
