Environmental renewal and geotechnologies for the ecological transition

Course objectives

The course covers aspects of Environmental geography such as sustainability and environmental policies, in order to provide a theoretical framework for a better understanding of the processes behind the current ecological transition. The course will also focuses on geotechnologies such as Geographical InformationSystems, which will be applied to analyse real-world scenarios and to process spatial datasets which represent environmental phenomena.

Course program
The study of the environmental criticalities of the ocean begins with the most remote experiences of man with the aquatic environment; this has represented since ancient times the fundamental place of discovery, transit, trade, expansion of man, as well as food supply. Recapping the events of the relationship of discovery of the ocean environment is the first part of the course, which introduces the study of the relationship between man and the sea that has become critical today in terms of environmental impact. The chemical-physical characteristics of water will be taken into consideration and then considered the ways and effects of its alteration depending on the type of pollution induced by human communities and particularly produced by some activities.
