Psychological and deontological aspects of cultural mediation

Course objectives

A) Knowledge and understanding: the student will comprehend the psychological aspects of cultural mediation, with a particular interest in the community that uses sign language; he/she will also have the ability to understand the deontological aspects of the profession of interpreter and mediator. B) Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: the student will be able to understand and apply in his/her profession those knowledge realated to the psychological and cognitive aspects of the deaf person, respecting his/her specificities and individual characteristics. He/She will also be able to apply the knowledge acquired in the field of ethics in the delicate task of interpreter and cultural mediator. C) Autonomy of judgment: using his/her psychological and deontological knowledge, the student will be able to choose how to relate in the most correct way with the deaf person, according to the different situations that could arise; D) Communication skills: the student will be able to explain and communicate the psychological aspects related to the profession of interpreter, and will be able to discuss from an ethical point of view the main implications of his/her role related to the deaf community; E) Learning skills: the student will have the necessary tools to continue the study of the psychological and ethical aspects of the role of the interpreter, and to keep up to date on the most recent research in these fields.
