Introduction to foreign sign languages

Course objectives

A) Knowledge and understanding: the student must demonstrate that they have understood the linguistic and communication strategies common to all sign languages. B) Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: the student will be able to recognize the differences between the foreign sign languages, especially in the formation of lexical units and iconic strategies. C) Autonomy of judgment: thanks to the acquired knowledge you will be able to identify the communication strategies that lies at the base of the formation of signs in all languages; this will make the student more aware and mature. D) Communication skills: the student will be able to choose effective communication strategies even in multilingual contexts, and whenever sign language still presents traits of non-standardization. E) Learning skills: in the absence of codified materials, the student will be able to autonomously manage the production of signs, even consulting materials of different sign languages.
