SPANISH LITERATURE I

Course objectives

A) Knowledge and understanding: The student will have to acquire general knowledge and ability to read the historical-cultural dynamics in the studies of Spanish literature, with attention to the most recent developments in the debate and in the disciplinary bibliography. B) Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: a knowledge of the pivotal moments of Spanish literature will make the student more aware even in the activity of mediator of general cultural phenomena of artistic production. C) Autonomy of judgment: student will be able to collect and interpret the data on which base a critically aware judgment, even in the ethical-social dimension. D) Communication skills: the student will be able to use the knowledge acquired in arguing, addressing open questions, and communicating with competence both to specialists and to an audience of people who are not experts in the subject. E) Learning skills: the student must finally be provided with the necessary skills to undertake further Spanish literature exams.

Course program
After an initial cycle of lectures on the movements and poetics of the 16 th and 17 th Century Spanish literature, the course will deal with a reading and commentary of Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes (first part).
Prerequisites
Knowledge of Spanish is recommended but not mandatory.

Exam mode
The acquisition of the content presented during the course will be assessed through an oral interview, which will include the evaluation of historical-literary knowledge related to the context of Don Quixote, as well as the assessment of the reading of Cervantes' masterpiece.
