International experiences

Sapienza offers numerous opportunities for study, research and internships abroad: in Europe and outside Europe, for short stays or longer periods, theses abroad and much more.
Study periods in European countries: Erasmus+
Erasmus+ promotes transnational cooperation between higher education institutions; it funds mobility for study purposes (SMS) in all disciplines and levels of study (including doctoral studies) and promotes the academic recognition of studies within the European Higher Education Area. The Erasmus+ programme allows students to attend courses and pass exams, with full recognition in their academic curriculum, or to carry out research for the preparation of their bachelor's or doctoral thesis.

Internships in European countries: Erasmus+ traineeship
Erasmus+ training mobility allows you to undertake internships at companies, training and research centres based in one of the participating countries. The programme allows you to undertake full-time internships abroad, recognised as an integral part of your study programme. The internship can also be undertaken after graduation, provided that the selection takes place before the degree is awarded. The number of months of mobility is added to those of the Erasmus study periods, up to the maximum allowed by the programme.

Study periods in non-EU countries: Overseas Programme
Thanks to funds provided by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and its own contributions, every year Sapienza offers the opportunity to spend a period of study, to take exams or do thesis research, in one of the more than 200 non-EU institutions with which it has bilateral agreements. The Overseas mobility programme provides a monthly contribution of €700 net per month for the first 5 months and €500 net from the 6th month onwards. The continuous stay abroad cannot be less than 90 days and can last for a maximum of 2 consecutive semesters. The grant may only be used once per study cycle and cannot be combined with other Sapienza grants.

Study or research periods in non-EU countries: Erasmus+ KA171 international credit mobility programme - ICM
The Erasmus+ ICM programme, funded by the European Commission, allows students and teachers to spend a period of study/research for their thesis or teaching/training in non-EU countries and provides a scholarship and coverage of travel expenses. All activities undertaken abroad will be recognised upon return from mobility by the relevant Sapienza teachers, as established in the Learning Agreement. Student mobility can last from a minimum of 3 to a maximum of 6 months (possibly extendable to a maximum of 12 months, the last 6 months of which without a scholarship - Zero-EU Grant mode). The ICM scholarship also covers mobility for PhD-level research for the same duration. Travel expenses are calculated using the Distance Calculator based on the distance between the city of the home university and the city of the host university.
