International experiences
Sapienza offers numerous opportunities for study, research and internships abroad: in Europe and outside Europe, for short stays or longer periods, dissertations abroad and much more.
Study periods in European countries: Erasmus+
Erasmus+ promotes transnational cooperation between higher education institutions; it funds mobility for study purposes (SMS) in all disciplines and levels of study (including doctorates) and encourages the academic recognition of studies within the European Higher Education Area. The Erasmus+ programme makes it possible to attend courses and pass examinations, with full recognition in one's academic curriculum, or to carry out research for the preparation of one's degree or doctoral thesis.

Traineeships in European countries: Erasmus + traineeships
Erasmus+ traineeship mobility allows trainees to carry out placements in companies, training and research centres based in one of the participating countries. The programme allows full-time traineeships abroad, recognised as an integral part of the study programme. The traineeship can also be carried out after graduation, provided the selection takes place before the degree is awarded. The number of mobility months is added to the number of Erasmus study periods, up to the maximum provided for by the programme.

Study periods in non-EU countries: Overseas Programme
Thanks to funds provided by the Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR) and to its own contributions, every year Sapienza offers the opportunity to spend a study period, to sit examinations or do dissertation research, in one of the over 200 non-EU institutions with which it has bilateral agreements in force. Overseas mobility provides a monthly contribution of €700 net per month for the first 5 months and €500 net from the 6th month onwards. The stay abroad, which is continuous, cannot be less than 90 days and can last for a maximum of two consecutive semesters. The grant may only be used once per study cycle and cannot be combined with other Sapienza grants.

Study or research periods in non-EU countries: Erasmus+ programme KA171 international credit mobility - ICM
The Erasmus+ ICM programme, financed by the European Commission, allows students and lecturers to spend a period of study/research for thesis or teaching/training in non-EU countries and provides a grant and coverage of travel expenses. All activities incurred abroad will be recognised on return from mobility by the competent Sapienza lecturers, as established in the Learning Agreement. Student mobility may last from a minimum of 3 to a maximum of 6 months (which may be extended to a maximum of 12 months, of which the last 6 months without a grant - Zero-EU Grant mode). The ICM grant also covers PhD-level research mobility for the same duration. Travel expenses are calculated using the Distance Calculator on the basis of the distance to be travelled between the city of the university of origin and the city of the university of destination.

The Degree Course in Linguistic and Intercultural Mediation has appointed two RAMs to assist students departing for periods of training abroad in the compilation of their Learning Agreement and then proceed to its approval. The President of the Board of Studies is responsible for assisting students participating in the Free Movers programme. It should also be noted that, in addition to the student mobility provided for by the Erasmus agreements, the MLI degree course has, on its own initiative, set up specific mobility programmes ensured by international agreements with non-EU universities, such as those stipulated with Latin American universities (32 grants with 12 different universities) and the Russian Federation (the latter are currently suspended by decision of the MUR). The number of students enrolled in Mediation also includes recurring cases of free-mover students leaving for training periods in non-European locations. In accordance with the Faculty's regulations, these students are constantly offered effective assistance in preparing for their study period abroad and, if necessary, during the course of their studies.
The Degree Course in Linguistic and Intercultural Mediation also actively collaborates with Sapienza's Career Service, for the purpose of making use of contacts consolidated over time with Italian and foreign bodies and institutions, for the development of curricular and extracurricular work placements, aimed at the acquisition, for students, of practical and theoretical skills useful for future entry into the world of work. Formal or informal consultation of the parties involved actively contributes to the definition of the training courses abroad that are most congenial to the Mediation student body.
