Linguistic and intercultural mediator
Functions
Graduates are able to employ, in accordance with current legislation, the needs of society and the demands of the labour market, the knowledge and skills acquired in the linguistic and intercultural field in the following sectors: legal, economic, socio-political, health, school-educational, cultural, tourism-commercial.
They will operate:
- In contexts and situations where in-depth knowledge of foreign languages and cultures, solid competence in inter-linguistic and intercultural communication (also in the presence of minority and immigrant languages), and the ability to use the main IT and digital communication tools in use in this field are required;
- In Italian or foreign public bodies active in international cooperation, private companies operating in foreign trade, non-profit associations involved in the reception, education and integration of migrants, national and local administrations, educational institutions, health care companies, criminal and civil courts or penal institutions in their relations with foreign subjects.
Skills
Graduates acquire the following knowledge and skills that can be profitably used in various professional fields
- in the field of language services and publishing, as translators and editors thanks to the knowledge and skills acquired in the languages of study (written and oral), in the theory and practice of translation including sectorial languages, in the reference literatures and cultures, in general linguistics and in the history of the Italian language and culture.
- in the field of law in the international scenario, as consultants and/or assistants thanks to the knowledge and skills acquired in applied linguistics and sectorial languages, law, international relations.
- in the field of foreign trade, as consultants and/or assistants thanks to the knowledge and skills acquired in the sectoral languages of economics and law.
- in the field of international cooperation, as advisor and/or assistant thanks to the knowledge and skills acquired in the sectoral languages of law, international relations, cultural history and sociology.
- in the health sector, as advisors and/or assistants thanks to the knowledge and skills acquired in the sectoral languages of medicine, sociology and psychology.
- in the school-educational sphere, as advisors and/or assistants thanks to the knowledge and skills acquired in the foreign languages of study.
