Course program
Handwriting and Book in Occidental World: Antiquity, Middle Age, Early Modern Age: the course consists of two main parts. Unit 1 explains and unfolds topics and issues in the history of latin handwriting in ancient world and in middle and early modern age, with special care to cultural and social implications of writing and books in occidental history. Unit 2 aims at the ability in reading and transcribing, introduces to primary notions of codicology, sets basic bibliography in palaeographical cataloguing. Tutorial exercises are planned to train competences in recognizing and reading medieval handwriting. Palaeography needs a very specialistic method in learning, and tutorial exercises: attendance is therefore compulsory.

Prerequisites
Knowledge of the broad lines in Late Antiquity, Medieval and Early Modern History.

Frequency
Palaeography needs a very specialistic method in learning, and tutorial exercises: attendance is therefore compulsory.
Students who may not attend have to contact the teacher about their custom supplementary/replacement program, strictly within the end of the course.
Exam mode
An inclusive oral and practical test of ability in reading, identifying, contextualizing handwritings will allow to evaluate achieving objectives and content of the course.
Lesson mode
Frontal classes; students will leaded for reading and trascribing in teamwork as well as individually.
In case of healt emergency, lectures will be done with the help of telematic tools.
