Books
ATTENDING STUDENTS
- LUDOVICO ARIOSTO, Orlando Furioso (any annotated edition is acceptable; recommended edition: LUDOVICO ARIOSTO, Orlando Furioso, commentary by Emilio Bigi, edited by Cristina Zampese, Milan, BUR, 2012).
The work must be read in its entirety: during the exam, you may be asked to discuss any episode or character from the poem.
In addition, you are required to be able to paraphrase and comment on the octaves that will be indicated on Google Classroom during the course.
- GIANFRANCO CONTINI, Come lavorava l'Ariosto (the essay and study aid slides will be made available on Google Classroom).
NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS
The texts to be studied are the same as those indicated for attending students.
For the monographic part, we recommend consulting the Google Classroom channel for information on which octaves need to be paraphrased: as explained above, these will be indicated as the course progresses.
In addition, to make up for the lack of notes on the monographic part, we recommend studying one of the following volumes:
- STEFANO JOSSA, Ariosto, Bologna, il Mulino, 2009.
- SERGIO ZATTI, Leggere l’«Orlando furioso», Bologna, il Mulino, 2016.
Frequency
Attending or non-attending mode.
Exam mode
The oral examination will aim to test the study of the texts in the syllabus. The paraphrase and commentary of one or more passages from ‘Orlando innamorato’ will be required.
For attending students, there is the possibility of an exemption (intermediate test during the course) for the textbook part of literary history. Those who do not take or fail the exemption will be questioned on the literary history part during the oral examination, in addition to the monographic part on ‘Orlando innamorato’.
Lesson mode
Teaching will take place exclusively in presence. Google Classroom: 7wnhy6nk
