Course program
The course will cover various topics related to digital applications currently used in archaeology, starting with the collection of data in the field, either traditionally or using digital tools, the digitization of so-called legacy data, the automatic processing of information for correct recording and analysis, and finally publication. Specifically, the lessons will cover the following topics: - Archaeological Theory - Stratigraphic archaeology - Introduction to Information and Communication Technology (ITC) - Overview of the Archaeological Record - Digital vs. Analog Data - Archaeological Databases - Geographical Information Systems (GIS) - Collecting Data in the Field: GNSS-TS, Photogrammetry - AI Applications to Archaeological Research - Digitizing Analog Data - 5-Star Rating System for Archaeological Data - Computer Graphics
Prerequisites
No prerequisites are necessary to attend the classes. Some introductory classes will be dedicated to archaeological methodologies in a broad sense.
Frequency
The course consists of a series of lectures accompanied by laboratory demonstrations and project work to be agreed upon.
Exam mode
The assessment includes an oral exam. Internships and other activities will be organized during the course and will be assessed on an ongoing basis.
