Course program

Prerequisites
Very good knowledge of the Italian language.

ATTENDING STUDENTS a) Handbooks: - 'Prosodia e metrica' and 'Figure retoriche' (Google Classroom, code 7wnhy6nk ) - GIANFRANCO ALFANO, PAOLA ITALIA, EMILIO RUSSO, FRANCO TOMASI, 'Profilo di letteratura italiana. Dalle origini a fine Ottocento', Milano, Mondadori Università, 2021. The following chapters must be studied: Il dolce stil novo; Dante Alighieri; Francesco Petrarca; Giovanni Boccaccio; La stagione dell'Umanesimo (Introduzione + Alla scoperta degli Antichi); Pietro Bembo; Baldassarre Castiglione; Niccolò Machiavelli; Francesco Guicciardini; Torquato Tasso; Giovan Battista Marino; Arcadia; Pietro Metastasio; Critici e storiografi del Settecento; Carlo Goldoni; Milano-Europa. L'Illuminismo lombardo; Giuseppe Parini; Vittorio Alfieri; Ugo Foscolo; Alessandro Manzoni; Giacomo Leopardi; Ippolito Nievo; Giovanni Verga. As an aid to studying the textbook (which remains the reference text for preparing this part of the exam), the teacher will upload slides on each of the above chapters to Google Classroom, also with the aim of focusing attention on the most important concepts and works. NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS The texts to be studied are the same as those indicated for attending students. For the institutional part, non-attending students are also strongly advised to use the slides that will be uploaded to Google Classroom, as they can facilitate the study of the textbook and help identify the most important concepts and works.

Attending or non-attending mode.
Exam mode
The oral examination will aim to test the study of the texts in the syllabus. The paraphrase and commentary of one or more passages from ‘Orlando innamorato’ will be required. For attending students, there is the possibility of an exemption (intermediate test during the course) for the textbook part of literary history. Those who do not take or fail the exemption will be questioned on the literary history part during the oral examination, in addition to the monographic part on ‘Orlando innamorato’.
Lesson mode
