Course regulations

Degree Programme: Philology, Literature and History of the Ancient World
Class: LM-15

a) The Programme is divided into two curricula.
b) The courses that make up the study paths, along with their relevant scientific-disciplinary areas and any division into modules, are published in the programme description.
c) The courses and the credits assigned to them are also published in the programme description. This Degree Programme has no prerequisites.
d) The elective activities chosen by the student and the corresponding number of credits are published in the programme description.
e) Procedures for transferring from other programmes are governed by the university programme description for the current academic year.
f) The teaching method is conventional. Assessment methods consist of oral and written exams.
g) The Degree Programme appoints one or more instructors to assess foreign language proficiency. The corresponding credits are listed in the programme description.
h) The Degree Programme appoints one or more professors responsible for assessing other skills. The relevant credits are listed in the programme description.
i) The Degree Programme appoints one or more professors to assess the results of any internships, traineeships, or periods of study abroad. The relevant credits are listed in the programme description.
j) Any other provisions regarding student obligations can be found in the charter of rights and duties of students, which is available at the following address: https://www.uniroma1.it/it/documento/cartadei-diritti-e-dei-doveri-delle...
k) The Degree Programme provides conventional attendance methods. It also provides attendance methods for part-time students (approximately 30 credits), as the course calendar and syllabus outlined in the programme essentially remain unchanged for the following year.
l) The Degree Programme recognises credits earned in other degree programmes at La Sapienza or other universities, in accordance with its programme of studies, following assessments.
m) The tutoring methods aim to orientate and assist students throughout their studies, actively engaging them in the learning process and removing obstacles to successful attendance. This includes initiatives tailored to the needs, aptitudes and requirements of each individual. Tutoring services collaborate with organisations that support the right to education and student representatives. This contributes to students’ overall cultural development needs and their full participation in university activities (Law 341/1990, Article 13).
n) The Degree Programme states that courses worth at least 60 credits are taught by professors or researchers with tenure in the relevant scientific fields at this or other universities, based on specific agreements between the universities involved. No tenured professor or researcher has been counted more than twice in total for courses taught at their own university and at others. To consult the list of professors, please refer to the programme schedule.
o) To enrol on the programme, students must have obtained a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent or higher) containing at least 90 credits in the scientific-disciplinary fields established by the Degree Programme regulations.
At least 30 of the 90 CFUs must be obtained in the following sectors: L-FIL-LET/02 (HELL-01/B), L-FIL-LET/04 (LATI-01/A), L-FIL-LET/05 (FICP-01/A), of which at least 12 + 12 CFU of L-FIL-LET/02 (HELL-01/B) and L-FIL-LET/04 (LATI-01/A)
6 CFU of L-ANT/02 (STAN-01/A)
6 CFU of L-ANT/03 (STAN-01/B)
12 CFU of L-FIL-LET/10 (ITAL-01/A).
A good knowledge of a foreign language (English, French, Spanish or German) equivalent to Level B2 is also required. If this is not documented in the curriculum vitae or other certification (e.g. the Cambridge First Certificate), it will be verified during the pre-admission interview.
p) During the study plan preparation phase, students will receive instructions for compiling two recommended study plans for the ‘Historical and Medieval Studies’ curriculum: one for the ‘Historical’ major and the other for the ‘Medieval Studies’ major.
