AAF – OTHER EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES Awarding Credits
“Other Educational Activities (AAF)” awarding credits are activities that complement the study plan, allowing students to acquire additional knowledge and skills.
Although the credits corresponding to the AAF are placed within specific academic years and semesters, they may be earned throughout the entire university career, while their registration (with a pass/fail certification, not expressed in thirtieths) is possible exclusively starting from the third year.
These activities are included in the study plan and indicated as CURRICULAR INTERNSHIP and DIGITAL SKILLS.
Students enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degree Programme (L‑11) and in the Master’s Degree Programme (LM‑36) in Oriental Languages and Civilizations must obtain the pass grade for “Other Educational Activities”, earning the ECTS credits indicated below by the end of the programme:
For Bachelor’s Degree students (total of 16 ECTS), divided as follows:

AAF1142 – DIGITAL SKILLS: 8 ECTS
AAF1046 – INTERNSHIP: 8 ECTS

For Master’s Degree students (total of 6 ECTS), to be chosen among the following:

AAF1140 – DIGITAL SKILLS: 6 ECTS
AAF1044 – INTERNSHIP: 6 ECTS
AAF1136 – DIGITAL SKILLS: 2 ECTS
AAF1138 – DIGITAL SKILLS: 4 ECTS
AAF1040 – INTERNSHIP: 2 ECTS
AAF1042 – INTERNSHIP: 4 ECTS

For further information on how to activate a CURRICULAR INTERNSHIP, please consult the “Internships” section.

DIGITAL SKILLS
ECTS credits for Digital Skills may be obtained by:

Passing an exam on a programme provided by the degree course (join Classroom using the invitation link: https://classroom.google.com/c/NzE0MzI5MDM5NjE1?cjc=ooe66wq);
Presenting certificates already obtained by the student (e.g., ECDL, EIPASS or similar), provided they have not been previously used. The documentation will be evaluated by a dedicated Committee for the Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Programmes in Oriental Languages and Civilizations (see instructions for registration at the bottom of the page).

AAF – OTHER EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES awarding credits offered by the CAD in Oriental Languages and Civilizations
In addition to the Curricular Internship opportunities available on the TSP portal, the CAD (Teaching Area Council) in Oriental Languages and Civilizations offers students further options that allow them to deepen curricular teachings and broaden their general knowledge by engaging with less familiar areas.
1) SEMINARS AND CONFERENCES ORGANIZED BY THE DEPARTMENT “ITALIAN INSTITUTE OF ORIENTAL STUDIES”
ECTS credits may also be obtained through participation in conferences, study days, seminar cycles, workshops, etc., only if directly organized and/or publicized by the Department “Italian Institute of Oriental Studies – ISO” and approved by the CAD.
The full list of opportunities is available under “Internship Opportunities” offered by the CAD in Oriental Languages and Civilizations.
For these activities, the intern must:

Register following the instructions provided for each event;
Write and submit to the Internship Tutor a report on the assigned topic, according to the deadlines and requirements indicated by the Tutor;
Request from the Tutor, at the end of the event, a certificate of participation.

Depending on the number of hours involved and the length of the corresponding report, credits are awarded as follows:

1 ECTS = 6 hours (event duration) + report of 6,000 characters including spaces
2 ECTS = 12 hours + report of 10,000 characters including spaces
3 ECTS = 18 hours + report of 14,000 characters including spaces
4 ECTS = 24 hours + report of 18,000 characters including spaces

For events of different length, the Internship Tutor will determine the appropriate credit allocation and communicate it to the students concerned. Recognition of participation in seminars and conferences external to the Italian Institute of Oriental Studies as internship activities must be approved in advance by the CAD.

2) CERTIFICATIONS OF FOREIGN LANGUAGE COURSES
Certificates must refer to foreign language courses completed in Italy or abroad and must attest that the student passed a final examination, specifying the grade obtained and the level of linguistic competence achieved.
Certified linguistic knowledge must:

Refer to foreign languages other than those studied within the student’s degree programme, or
Certify a level higher than that required for the foreign language courses in the student’s curriculum (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

3) CERTIFIED VOLUNTEERING ACTIVITIES
Students must submit certification for volunteering activities issued by the organization where the activity was carried out, clearly indicating the duration, place, and description of the tasks performed. The Internship Committee will convert the certified hours into ECTS credits (1 ECTS = 25 hours), subject to final approval by the CAD.

4) PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Knowledge and professional skills acquired through the student’s own work experience, and certified under current legislation, may be recognized as AAF, even retrospectively, provided they are evaluated by the CAD as coherent with the learning objectives of the degree programme (as per University Teaching Regulations, Art. 11, Paragraph 5).
No ECTS credits will be awarded for “Other Educational Activities” that do not fall within the categories listed above.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE REGISTRATION OF AAF CREDITS
Documentation for the registration of AAF Internship credits, and exclusively for the pass/fail certification of Digital Skills obtained through previously acquired certificates (therefore excluding Digital Skills obtained through the course exam), must be submitted according to the following instructions:
VALIDATION OF AAF – OTHER EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES
Students must request validation of their AAF credits by email, completing the VERBALIZATION REQUEST FORM and sending it to Prof. Sanjukta Das Gupta (sanjukta.dasgupta@uniroma1.it) a few days before the exam session, attaching all necessary documentation in PDF format. This includes the certificate issued by the organization where the activity took place, specifying the number of hours and the tasks performed.
IMPORTANT: ALL DOCUMENTATION (CERTIFICATES + REQUEST FORM) MUST BE COMPLETE AND IN PDF FORMAT ONLY.
For activities organized by the ISO Department, the Tutor’s certification must also be attached.
REGISTRATION DATES a.y. 2025/2026
IMPORTANT:

Requests for validation will not be considered for codes not yet active in the student’s academic plan (e.g., third‑year codes for students enrolled in the second year);
Requests for validation will not be considered for codes not selected in the student’s academic plan;
In the case of multiple activities corresponding to a number of ECTS credits lower than the selected code, certificates must be combined by the student until reaching the total ECTS required and then submitted together for recognition (e.g., 2 + 4 ECTS of internship = AAF1044, 6 ECTS);
Once submitted, certificates cannot be reused for future credit recognition requests;
Volunteering activities carried out under a “Collaboration Grant” will not be accepted for Internship credit recognition.

Apprenticeship

CURRICULAR INTERNSHIP (www.uniroma1.it/sites/default/files/regolamenti/Regolamentotirocinicurri...)
For the definition of Curricular Internship, the Committee refers to the “Regulations for the implementation of curricular internships” issued by the Rector with Decree No. 1031 of 12/01/2015. Accordingly, it considers as curricular any internship that involves no form of compensation for the intern and that “completes the study programme for the awarding of the degree through practical activities carried out also in external institutions, with the aim of providing alternating periods of study and work within the educational process and facilitating professional choices through direct knowledge of the working environment.”
CURRICULAR INTERNSHIP REGULATIONS (www.uniroma1.it/sites/default/files/regolamenti/Regolamentotirocinicurri...)

1) CURRICULAR INTERNSHIP OFFERS
INTERNSHIP ACTIVITIES OFFERED BY THE UNIVERSITY ON THE TSP PORTAL
On the new TSP (uniroma1.tsp.esse3.cineca.it/pub/main-page) portal, Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree students in Oriental Languages and Civilizations will find all the internship opportunities.
ECTS credits can be obtained by applying to internships open to enrolled students and proposed by accredited institutions.
For all internships, the procedure must follow the University Regulations, and credits are awarded as follows:
1 ECTS = 25 hours of internship activities.
Students are advised to consult the FAQ and to send the training project, signed by both the student and the host institution, to tirocini.lettere@uniroma1.it for the activation of the internship.
The entire procedure must be completed before the start date of the internship; otherwise, the insurance coverage cannot be activated, and the internship cannot begin.

1.1) Internship Activities in Teaching Italian as an L2
Among the offers published on the TSP portal are also internships related to the teaching of Italian as a second language (Italiano L2).
Students are informed that, in order to ensure continuity—also emotional—which develops through interactions with children, the internship hours carried out in schools must be distributed over a period no shorter than an entire school semester.

1.2) Internship Activities in Libraries
Among the offers published on the TSP portal are also internships offered by the Library of the Department “Italian Institute of Oriental Studies – ISO”, as well as by other libraries that have proposed internship projects consistent with the study plans of the Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Oriental Languages and Civilizations.

INTERNSHIP ACTIVITIES PROPOSED BY LECTURERS
A proposing party, usually a lecturer from the Teaching Area of Oriental Languages and Civilizations, may submit an internship proposal (e.g., internships abroad in companies or institutions, or internships connected to cultural events and exhibitions) to the Chair of the Teaching Area, who will then submit it to the CAD (Teaching Area Council) for approval.

INTERNSHIP ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT AT THE CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE OF THE DEPARTMENT “ITALIAN INSTITUTE OF ORIENTAL STUDIES – ISO”
Subject to the approval of the responsible lecturers and to the definition of tasks and content, students with adequate knowledge of Chinese may carry out an internship at the offices of the Confucius Institute of the Department of Oriental Studies.
The required documentation—issued by the Institute and signed by the academic Tutor—must clearly indicate the duration and content of the activities performed.
For every 25 hours of internship, 1 ECTS will be awarded.

Graduate
