The degree program aims to provide:

- specialization in a linguistic, literary and cultural area of Europe and the Americas, accompanied by written and oral proficiency in a first language and a good knowledge and consolidation of a second language;
- advanced theoretical and practical skills in language, literature, art and cultural history, and specific teaching methods for the languages, literatures and cultures studied.

A unique curriculum is designed for graduates, in which, with appropriate guidance, they can pursue paths in three qualifying areas: philological-hermeneutic, literary, metalinguistic and intercultural research; literary and/or sectoral translation; teaching.

In addition to linguistic and literary specialization, the course structure provides a solid foundation through a methodological framework enhanced and enriched by: specific teaching methods for each language; awareness of the main critical trends in comparative literature; familiarity with the media and digital communication and their application to the cultural field; philological skills inherent to the languages studied; knowledge of language teaching in the most recent methodologies, including theory, history and translation teaching; in-depth study of Italian literature in its main lines of development or in teaching.
The course is supplemented by: knowledge of the history of Europe, from the modern to the contemporary era, and of the Americas; methodology of literary analysis and text interpretation; historical, artistic and cultural contextualisation of literary works; knowledge of the art history of European and/or American civilizations; awareness of the main lines of historiographical and critical analysis applied to modern and/or contemporary art history; the ability to link linguistic-literary and philosophical culture; knowledge of the history and technique of cinema and theories of performance.

Linguistic-cultural, didactic, pedagogical-psychological and anthropological competence is adequate, subject to the qualifications required by law, for higher education teaching of the above-mentioned foreign languages and literatures and for the competition class for the enhancement of Italian for non-native speakers. The course aims to train students through in-depth theoretical study in the field of linguistics, translation theory and translation editing. It offers them solid experience in literary and non-fiction and/or technical-scientific translation. Competence in the two languages and knowledge of the contexts prepare graduates for professions in intercultural mediation and important roles in the fields of publishing, public relations and information. They also provide them with the tools to embark on a research career in their specific areas of expertise.

The acquisition of knowledge and skills through the study of core, methodological and related disciplines, tailored to individual choices (but always in the three areas of philological-literary/metalinguistic, translation and teaching), can lead to further studies in second-level Master's programs, PhD programs, postgraduate courses and teacher training.
The course is divided into two years and consists of lectures, laboratory activities run by lecturers and language experts, and seminars. The course also organizes conferences and seminars on linguistic, literary, cultural and educational topics relevant to the students' training. The level of learning achieved by students is assessed orally and/or in writing, as determined by the teachers.
