Presentation
The Master's Degree Teorie e tecniche della moda - Fashion Theory was established in the academic year 2025-2026 following a structural modification of the previous program in Scienze della moda - Fashion Studies which was launched in 2016. It represents the ideal and potential completion of the three-year Bachelor's Degree in Fashion and Costume Studies, with which it forms part of the Department of History, Anthropology, Religions, Art, and Entertainment; the teaching area in Fashion and Costume Studies.
The LM Fashion Theory and Practices is an inter-university course with Unitelma-Sapienza. The teaching activities are managed in a hybrid format, both in-person and online; only the first semester of the first year is delivered exclusively online. All courses and teaching activities are conducted entirely in English and are aimed at an international audience. The curriculum includes subjects in sociology, history of art, anthropology, history, economics, management, communication and marketing, drawing and design, psychology, information technology, aesthetics, and law.
The structure of the program is very flexible (except for a small group of mandatory exams totaling 30 ECTS) and allows for the creation of highly specialized paths thanks to optional groups and elective exams. Workshops are planned, both methodological to introduce students to fashion research, and based on interaction with the fashion industry realities, in the city of Rome and throughout Italy. Erasmus+ exchange projects have been activated with major European universities that study fashion phenomena. Since its inception in 2016, almost every year a visiting professor from prestigious international courses has been welcomed. Students can carry out internships and training placements at affiliated institutions through the Jobsoul platform.
