Dramaturgy of Performance

Course objectives

The course, Aesthetics and Politics of the performance (1st year of Master's Degree) aims primarily to provide students with a solid historical and theoretical knowledge base on the evolution of performance and performance studies. Furthermore, the course should develop in students the ability to critically analyze the performing arts, and especially performance art. Furthermore, one of the objectives will be to introduce new theories (performance studies) and practices of artistic and cultural performance and to prepare students how to read, interpret and analyze contemporary performing arts. The course will also include the analysis of performative language, including its form, content and interpretation. The course will also indicate research methodologies, that is, to give the tools how to use historical sources, documents and archives, as well as critical studies.
