Territory's management and enhancement

The goal of the course is to supply the fundamentals about the most important up-to-date techniques for acquiring, managing and representing geographical information. The course is an advanced follow up of the course of Surveying and Cartography. Starting from the fundamentals of geodesy (reference system and coordinates systems), satellite positioning systems and Earth observation satellites are illustrated and the most common surveying techniques are described, also through field exercitations. Part of the course is finally devoted to modern platforms for crowdsourced geographical information (Open Street Map, Open Level Up). As overall transversal competences, starting from the specific geomatic methods and techniques, students will be trained to develop skills to design experiments encompassing geodata acquisition, analysis and interpretation. Moreover, the student will get the competences enabling the continuous and autonomous update of their methodological and technical knowledge during their professional life.
