Quality control principles. General principles and applications of clinical molecular biology. Organization and automation of the molecular biology laboratory. Basic principles of molecular biology techniques for laboratory diagnostics. Nucleic acid extraction. PCR, ARMS, allelic discrimination, forward and reverse hybridization, RFLP, Southern blot, MLPA. DNA sequencing. Principles of next-generation sequencing. Functional interpretation of DNA variants. Applications of molecular diagnostics in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of genetic diseases: some examples. Major cardiovascular risk factors.
