PSYCHOBIOLOGY AND PHYSIOLOGICAL PSYCHOLOGY: THEORIES AND METHODS
Course objectives
LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT Objectives with reference to the Dublin parameters: A. Knowledge and understanding. The students will have to reach a good knowledge of (i) the terminology and the current psychobiological theories, (ii) the physiological correlates of different behavioral, emotional and cognitive phenotypes, (iii) the methods for inducing such phenotypes and measuring their cerebral substrates. B. Applying knowledge and understanding. The students will have to be able to make use of the concepts they have learned in order to (i) design the most appropriate experimental paradigms for psychobiological studies, (ii) select and understand scientific literature about the psychobiological bases of human behaviors, both normal and pathological. C. Making judgements. The students will develop critical and independent evaluation skills upon the basic concepts of psychobiology and the methods used in the experimental field, by reflections and in-depth analyses supplied to class group. D. Communication skills. The students will be able to communicate in a clear manner the theoretical knowledge, the experimental paradigms and the cerebral substrates of various human behaviors, by producing clear text about specific topic. E. Learning skills. The students will be able to learn experimental approaches and procedures for the investigation of behavioral, emotional and cognitive manifestations in animals and humans.
