Students who already have the certification will have to register the ECTS.

Students who do not have any certification will be able to attend the course organized by the CdL.

Programme

The course will deal with the examination of some "loci critici" of the «Ars Prisciani», verifying the most recent hypothesis of reconstruction of the "stemma codicum" through the collation of some passages in selected carolingian manuscripts.

Adopted texts

Being a seminar-type course, students will receive from the teacher the reproductions of the manuscripts that will be examined.

Non-attending students are invited to contact the teacher for a personalized program.
Those studente who haven't a solid background in philology can also follow the lessons of the basic module (Filologia classica [Lettere Moderne]), asking the teacher for some further readings.

Prerequisites

This course is intended as an advanced one: students are recommended to have attended a basic module of Classical Philology or to have gained (independently or by other courses) a good knowledge of the discipline.

Study modes

The lessons will be carried on in a traditional way.The teacher will guide the students in the examination of the apparatus, and in the direct reading of the manuscripts; a special attention will be given to the strategy of composition of a layered text.

The examination aims to evaluate the acquisition of the necessary skills to independently approach the study of a text's transmission, by commenting the loci examined in class.

Lessons will start the 3rd of October; and will be held on thuesday (16-18) and wednesday (18-20) in Aula D Egittologia

Programme

This course is structured in two parts:in the first, the teacher will explain the issues related with the composition and the transmission of the classical texts, and with the formation of the modern principles of philological inquiry and textual criticism. We will examine in detail texts related to the issues proposed;in the second, the teacher will guide the class in reading manuscripts and comparing their texts, in order to produce a critical edition.

Prerequisites

A good knowledge of classical latin is reccomended.

Study modes

The lessons will be held in the traditional way; the first part of the course will be held mostly in the frontal form, in the second part the students will be actively involved in the reading and interpretation of the texts.

Frequency modes

Attendance is not compulsary: those students who will choose not to attend the lessons are invited to conctat the teacher.

Exam modes

The final examination will verify the knowledge of issues pertaining the trasmission of classical texts, and the acquisition of philological methods, alsto through the critical evaluation of the examples discussed during the course or in the assigned textbooks.
For attending students, the activities carried out during the second part of the course will also be taken into account.
