Objectives

The aim of the course are:
1. to make students capable to communicate in Spanish in different situations within the humanities, social sciences of the information society and communication studies;
2. to make students familiar with Hispanic culture (both Spanish and Hispanic American culture) to promote awareness and interest, to fully immerse students in the Spanish;
3. to make students master of the basics of Spanish phonetics to speak properly, with right pronunciation, intonation and rhythm. In this way they could eventually work in cinema, theatre, radio and television;
4. to make students familiar with Spanish spelling and improve their writing skills in order to be able to work in the press, publishing and digital media industries.

Programme

The course consists of traditional lectures in order to give students some knowledge related to Spanish and Latin-American language and culture. The course also offers laboratory sessions with the aim to analyze socio-linguistics, history and culture.
In addition, students can use online resources in order to practise grammar and vocabulary in an autonomous way.

Pronunciación y ortografía; los artículos; el género y el número; pronombres personales; interrogativos; objeto directo e indirecto; adjetivos y pronombres demostrativos; comparativos y superlativos; adjetivos (antepuestos y pospuestos); pronombres posesivos; el comparativo y el superlativo; así/tan; muy/mucho; verbos auxiliares; hay/ser/estar; presente de indicativo regular e irregular; pasados de indicativo: pretérito perfecto (regular e irregular); pretérito indefinido regular e irregular; pretérito imperfecto; pretérito pluscuamperfecto; algunos usos del pasado; futuro simple: algunos usos; perífrasis verbales de infinitivo y gerundio; preposiciones; algunos marcadores del discurso.

Exam modes

Written and oral exam

- Written grammar test. The exam consists of 40 items (open, multiple choices, true/false) in 45 minutes. Students can do the second part (oral exam) only if they pass the grammar test (min. grade of 18/30).

- Oral exam related to the monographic course.
