Obiettivi formativi

A) Acquisizione di una sicura metodologia di lavoro (analisi critica della bibliografia corrente, capacità di lavoro diretto su testi e casi di studio), anche in rapporto ai più recenti indirizzi della ricerca. B) Conoscenza delle linee canoniche e non canoniche della letteratura inglese, della sua storia, dei suoi generi e di alcuni problemi fondamentali dell’epoca.

Programma
This course will focus on British and contemporary Anglophone literature, with an emphasis on the period of the "new imperialism" and its long-term consequences. We will trace the connections between aesthetic and socio-cultural transformations, using our historically grounded readings to highlight key theoretical and methodological issues. We will pay particular attention to literature and empire, literature and the Cold War, literature in multicultural Britain, and literature in a postcolonial context.
Prerequisiti
Buona conoscenza della storia letteraria inglese.
