Literary Journeys between Africa and the Middle East - EXEMPTION ASSIGNMENTS
Dear students,
For the exemption assignment, each of you must choose one book from the list provided and write your choice here in the thread, so that no two people select the same title.
Once you’ve made your selections, I will assign each of you a set of additional readings (papers, book chapters, or articles) and pair you up with another student. Together, you will prepare a 10-minute presentation each, collaborating with your partner to highlight the common themes or connections between your chosen books.
Your presentation should be based both on the materials I will provide and on further research you conduct independently, using online sources and/or the library.
Presentations will take place starting from December 1, in random order. If anyone needs to present on a specific date, I will do my best to accommodate your request.
Your exam will consist of three parts:
1) The presentation, prepared in pairs as described above.
2) Attendance at the conference whose poster and program are attached (next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday). You must take part in at least three panels and submit a written report of 3-5 pages by December 20. 
3) The oral exam, during which you will discuss at least one of the topics covered in the course, different from those already presented. All the materials will be uploaded to the course's Google Classroom (code: zxbgvfis). The exam will be considered complete once this final step is completed.

L'esame si svolgerà in aula B Ciasca, 2 piano, alle ore 10.00. Consisterà di una prova scritta e di una prova orale. La prova scritta avrà una durata di 30 minuti e verrà corretta sul posto dalla docente e commentata con lo studente all'inizio della successiva prova orale. La prova orale consiste in un breve scambio volto a verificare il raggiungimento delle abilità e conoscenze lessicali, grammaticali, di comprensione e comunicazione oggetto del corso.

La data di inizio dei corsi di Lingua e cultura araba corso di base I e Lingua e cultura araba corso avanzato I verrà indicata dalla docente su questa bacheca nei prossimi giorni. La frequenza di corsi non è obbligatoria ma è caldamente consigliata, soprattutto alla luce del fatto che la lingua è un'"impresa collettiva" e apprenderla in un contesto di gruppo come l'aula garantisce maggiori possibilità di successo e riduce le frustrazioni.

Libri di testo
Considerata l'irreperibilità dei testi di Sabir al-Mashrafi, Su‘ad al-Khawli e Mahmud Abu Uways sul mercato librario italiano, la docente invierà un ordine collettivo direttamente all'editore all'inizio dell'anno accademico, una volta stabilito il numero degli studenti iscritti che vorranno acquistare i volumi. I libri di testo saranno disponibili a breve anche nella biblioteca del Dipartimento.
Se intendono partecipare all'acquisto collettivo, gli studenti non frequentanti sono pregati di mettersi in contatto con la docente entro la data di inizio del corso.

I am a tenure-track assistant professor (RTT) at Sapienza University of Rome and a Marie Skłodowska-Curie former
research fellow (2021-2024) with a project titled Transnational Maghreb and the International Prize for Arabic Fiction:
Pluralism, inclusiveness, and peaceful coexistence in the contemporary Maghrebi novel — TRANSECT. I hold a PhD fully
funded by Sapienza University of Rome, with a thesis on space and place in the oeuvre of the Jordanian writer and
critic Ghalib Halasa (1932-1989).
I am an editor of the academic journal "La rivista di Arablit".
Besides my academic activities, I am a literary translator from Arabic into Italian and founder and editor of the
magazine “Arabpop. Rivista di arti e letterature contemporanee”.
