Hypothalamus and pituitary: anatomy and physiology of the hypothalamic and pituitary hormones. Hypothalamic dysfunction, hypopituitarism and pituitary adenomas. Overview of the pathophysiology of the thyroid gland and regulation of the hypothalamus-hypophysis-thyroid axis. Pathogenesis, diagnosis and therapy of hypothyroidism. Iodine deficiency disorders. Pathogenesis, diagnosis and therapy of hyperthyroidism. Risk factors associated with the onset of thyroid neoplasms (ionizing radiation, familiarity, iodine intake, etc.). Overview of the molecular pathogenesis of thyroid tumors. Main biochemical, genetic and instrumental diagnostic pathways used in the diagnosis of thyroid carcinomas. Staging systems and prognosis of patients affected by thyroid neoplasms. Overview of the therapeutic approaches to thyroid cancer.
