THREE-DIMENSIONAL MODELING

Course objectives

GENERAL The teaching of Elements of Physics and Statistics - Physics module aims to provide students with an elementary basis on the fundamental principles of classical mechanics, introducing the concepts of vectors, force, motion, energy and momentum and very basic concepts on fluids and thermodynamics. Particular attention is paid to the development of a rigorous scientific method, based on the study of a physical problem, its simple mathematical modeling and on finding the solution to the problem with mostly algebraic and trigonometric steps. The teaching aims to make the student acquire the ability to analyze and solve physical problems through mathematical models, facilitating the connection between observable phenomena and fundamental laws of physics. This course represents an essential basis for subsequent studies. SPECIFIC • Knowledge and understanding: Understanding the fundamental principles of classical mechanics and thermodynamics. • Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: Solving simple physical problems using appropriate mathematical tools. • Making judgment: Critically evaluate the results obtained and the validity of the physical models adopted. • Communication skills: Clearly and coherently express concepts and solutions in the field of basic physics. • Learning skills: Acquire an independent study method to delve into scientific topics

Exam mode
- the examination of the Physics module consists of a written test and an oral interview. The test consists in solving 10 multiple choice questions in the time of one hour. Each correct answer will be scored 1.0 points, each wrong answer will be scored -0.25 points, each unanswered answer will be scored 0.0 points. The test is passed with 6.0 points. The test will be followed immediately by the oral interview, if time permits. With a result greater than 5.0 (5.25) you can still pass the exam (at least 6.0 points) following a convincing oral interview. The final result will be multiplied by 3 and rounded to whole numbers. The result will be associated with the evaluation of the Statistics Module held by Prof. Claudio Durastanti. Prof. Durastanti - claudio.durastanti@uniroma1.it) will then be responsible for the minutes. During the course there are 3 exercises with multiple choice tests on the topics covered up to that moment, for a total of 30 points (10 per exercise). In this way the student who follows the lessons will be able to have an evaluation on his understanding of the subject. If you get at least 18 points, these exercises can replace the exam test.
Lesson mode
Classroom lessons of 45 minutes with 15 minutes in which the teacher is available for questions and clarifications.
