Psychometry Advanced course

Course objectives

The overall objective of the course will be to provide students with theoretical knowledge and useful tools related to inferential psychometric analyses. The course will include a series of theoretical lectures followed by corresponding practical activities. The theoretical lectures will be divided into a frontal lecture part, intended for students' training, and another part reserved for students' questions and reflections. The conceptual and practical foundations of the main statistical analyses used in psychology will be defined, and the use of the main software such as Jamoovi and Spss will be taught and the essential psychometric assumptions for the use of the aforementioned software will be provided.

Course program
Course content concerns the study of inferential aspects of psychometrics, data representation and related analyses, through computer programs and software useful for psychometrics and social science research. The theoretical lectures will specifically cover aspects related to the theoretical foundations of psychometrics and basic analysis, and the proper use of data analysis methodologies. Through these two macro-topics, it is intended that students will learn how, through computer tools it is possible to carry out analysis on a psychological dataset, The focus will be on the theoretical and psychometric aspects of statistical analysis. Practical teaching activities, which will follow up on what has been learned from the theoretical ones. The program specifically will address the following key topics: Hypothesis testing with sample averages; Decision errors, effect size and statistical power; Introduction to t-tests. Single sample and dependent samples; The t-test for independent samples; Introduction to analysis of variance; Factorial analysis of variance; Correlation; Prediction.

Exam mode
The exam will consist of a written test, containing multiple choice questions (1 point for each correct answer) with four answer options; semi-open questions (1 point for each correct answer) to which the examiner will have to answer by identifying the correct answer, identifying it within a table (statistical part); and open, more general questions that may concern theoretical aspects or a detailed description of a graph or table, for a maximum of 4/5 rows (up to 5 points). The aim of the test is to evaluate the theoretical, practical, synthesis, reading knowledge of the student's data and has a duration of about 40 minutes. During the course, there will be in-progress tests

Practical lessons will be carried out by applying the theory, learned previously, through exercises and on-going tests both in the classroom and at home.
