Technological culture in design and in management of built environment

Course objectives

The course aims to provide students with the knowledge and understanding to operate on methodological and operational options in the design and construction processes. To this end, illustrious examples and stories will be described, recent past relating to the technological culture of the project and the management of the built environment, with references to the contemporary scenarios of architectural production processes and the critical issues encountered. The communications will concern the relationships concerning the relationships between technology and project, with particular relevance regarding the connotative aspects of the current phase

Course program
The course aims to analyse the work of some of the great innovators of 20th century technical architecture, through an excursus on the relationships between technical innovation and design. Through noteworthy examples of the way of working of some of the protagonists of the 20th century, some principles and methods of approaching the relationship between technological innovation in the building field and integration with models of management of the building and construction process will be identified. The lectures will be mainly face-to-face and the teaching activities will be supplemented with classroom exercises under the guidance of the lecturer. The exercises, devoted to case studies assigned by the lecturer, will form part of the examination, as will the verification of the knowledge acquired on the basis of the theoretical lectures.

Exam mode
Oral examination: Discussion of the topics addressed during the lectures; The final examination consists of: 1. Discussion of evaluation of a technical and textual paper relating to a notable case study agreed upon with the teaching staff and an interview on the topics of the seminar lectures 2. Evaluation of any other activities (videos, classroom exercises) requested by the lecturer or voluntary. Students are required to register for the examination before the date of the call for applications in accordance with the INFOSTUD system. The exercises, devoted to case studies assigned by the lecturer, will form part of the examination, as will the verification of knowledge acquired on the basis of the theoretical lectures.
Lesson mode
Frontal/traditional teaching Lectures will be conducted predominantly in the face-to-face mode and exercises will take place in the classroom under the guidance of the lecturer.
