Course objectives

Clinical epidemiology and evidence-based medicine Data quality and characteristics of the diagnostic test: validity and reliability of the diagnostic test, sensitivity, specificity, predictive values, prevalence. the SnNout and SpPin rules. Likelihood and odds ratios. The ROC curve. Basic models of study in epidemiology: descriptive and transversal observational studies. cohort and case-control studies. measures of association between risk factor and disease: absolute risk, attributable risk, relative risk, odds ratio Experimental studies (RCT). Effect measures. Criticality of the RCTs. Systematic reviews and meta-analysis (outline).
